Would rather have had the original artist. Was it Muddy Waters?

What, I thought it had been around since WW2 ! Congratulations Otto, your creation is alive and kicking and a boon to my life. I take breaks from the drawing board and check in her for relaxation and to learn.

    Kindly,
    Gaines

We were actually in existence on a free board in 1999, but the limitations of someone else owning the data became quickly apparent. I moved us to our own platform in early/mid 2000, and we have been building ever since.

Thats a bit hard to answer.

In mid 1999 we were in existence on a now defunkt free forum service somewhere. I honestly cannot even remember the location or url anymore, or even the start date, but I do remember posting in June of that year on that site. It was esentially me and a couple university friends posting pictures of tanks.

On 27 December 1999 I registered the domain WW2Forums.com which became our first indipentent and self directed home. We weren't active as an indipentent entity until I bought and figured out how to use UBB (Ultimate Bulletin Board) which was in mid 2000 or so. There was some small overlap between the free forum and our own site, but the transition was quick. We moved to the abbreviated WW2F.com a few years after that to simplify things.

Our first post on this site is dated September of 2000 (I think), but I used to prune old posts so earlier ones likely have been removed.

If we go by the first time I ran a site called the "WWII Forums" then our start is sometime in June of 1999.

If we go by the first official domain registration then 27 December 1999 is our founding.

If we go by oldest post recorded in our database then September of 2000 is our start.

The true founding is somewhere in between I presume. I've been using 1 January 2000 as the date to keep things simple, but we'll never know the true start date I guess.

What do others think should be the "official" founding of the site? It would be good to have an official WW2F foundind day each year. Maybe I'll serve brandy to the old hands. :)

The earliest 'Member Join Date' seems to be September 2000, so maybe the 'birth of the forums' was on September 1st, 2000?

Well... i remember going to some Panzer site (2000?), WW2F was a friend site linked (if recalling-long time). Clicked on the link- and WW2F has been home for all my WW2 needs ever since.
Remember i was leery to join. Dudes would eviscerate guys like me...but i'm still here. A little bruised, but alive.

You know, that's actually my original join date. I've since edited it to indicate 1 January 2000, but I remember working furiously to get the bulletin board software installed so I could commemorate Fall Weiss.

Let's go with 1 September 2000, as it signifies the genesis of the WWII Forums as an independent community.

Remember now- it was Achtung Panzer.
