This show has just about everything right. I've never been a SEAL but, I have served on an SF Team and they've nailed it. The tactics, the personalities, the family interactions, the missions, even the music. I watch and think man that guys just like so and so, or that guy's just like T.L.
I mean they nailed the personalities, they're identical to guys I served with in the Marines or later in SF. In the later episodes I even think I've come to understand why I have certain character flaws and idiosyncrasies.
I don't remember which episode it was but, it got me to thinking of music we'd use to get up for a mission. We used to, as a team, listen to Led Zepplin's "No Quarter" to get pumped before inserting on a mission both by helo or parachute. It was always put on so it would end when you got to about the 5 minutes out point.
I used to play it when taking the boys on night time, what they called "Park" missions when they were little. The older son remembered it and his unit used the "Tool" version when they were headed out on missions in Iraq.

Zepplin got it right, when you "Walk side by side with death the devil mocks your every step".

    Good bit there MrUSMCPrice.
A first , to me it looked like the show portrayed 6 team in a certain negative way...From shooting a young prone Detroiter, to trying to save the schoolgirls, that character has gained sympathy.

Look for it next Wednesday at 10/9 central. Last episode of this season so they may run a marathon of all the season before.

I don't see it as a negative light, I actually think it is an accurate light. The Detroit Kid he popped was an American running with and helping the Taliban. He was a traitor, and like they said, if they'd detained him he'd have been let go in a day or two and would be right back doing the same thing. Then you'd have to deal with every person he killed thereafter being another scar on your soul because you didn't have the nards to act. Or maybe he is just a misguided youth, and you just murdered him. No easy, right, or wrong answer, and more often than not, neither option is palatable.
The whole "Bear" thing where he thinks the sins of the father are being visited upon his children. I've felt that way before.
I don't want to give away anything so I will hold off until ya'll have seen it before discussing some of the issues. What I think is really well done is that there is more depth to the characters than a casual viewing would at first indicate. Many of the small things, and throw away lines, if you ponder them, open up multiple lines of understanding and retrospect.
The action also has ramifications in later episodes. After you've watched some you can ponder the whole "chicken and egg" question, and we can discuss it, but I will refrain at present so as not to drop any spoilers.

I hope they don't screw up a really well done show with a Hollywood ending for the season finale. However, looking at the previews for Wednesdays upcoming episode, I'm afraid they might.

Surprise ending. Well done, i figure...Buddy never actually died- so maybe he'll be back. Just like the Arab guy never died.
Fastforward the family stuff. Can see where someone would be concerned about that aspect if they lived that life.
I'm just looking for the action/main plot.
Thought the helicopters could have done more with the machine guns...Guess they were worried about the girls.
There was 1 weapon - 6 used...like a grenade launcher, but smaller. Never seen one of those.

Sadly, I think they did in part. The battle scene was very exciting to be sure, but also somewhat disappointing. The bad guys were supposed to be 'super jihadist's' with extra training and top line equipment, yet they sure seemed to suffer from the typical Hollywood ailment of CHS (Can't Hit Shit). One nameless guy is wounded at the start, then after that they fire half a clip and miss everybody. Yes Bear gets hit, protecting a Nigerian girl of course, but doesn't suffer any serious injury and Rip gets hit, but come on even I could hit a guy charging down a elevated walkway 3 feet wide.

The girl at the end did surprise me even though they added her earlier scene in the 'Previously on...' They leave you thinking at the end that the rest of the team is on the hit list, yet I understood considerable effort wen't into hiding members identity. The series as a whole I give 4 stars, but the final episode only 3.

At least one critic that gave it 5 stars lamented that they couldn't rate it higher. I was surprised with Rip getting killed by the girl, but it was actually a perfect ending. Rip had been in a bad place up until he found himself when he became the protector of the girls. He was readily willing to sacrifice all to save them. In the earlier episodes they give plenty of hints as to how he'd gotten there (and all would eventually end up there). Did you notice when Chase told Caulder just to shoot Michael? Earlier in the series he was horrified when he found out that Rip had performed a similar act.
Rip no longer had the SEALS, Rip would become less and less a part of the group because he was no longer on the team, after all he'd seen and done he would have had severe problems living a "normal" life. He'd killed his demon, Muttaqi. If he hadn't gone out when he did, his life would probably have devolved back to where he was when he first met Na'omi and the girls. Even the music when Rip got smoked, Neil Young's "Hey hey, my my" was perfect for portraying the message, "It's better to burn out, than to fade away" and "once you're gone you can never come back".

The final scene didn't specify "who" next was. It could be the SEALS and their families (unlikely as I'm not sure the terrorists had that information), more likely just more innocent people. This was so appropriate because it gives a great truth about the enemy we face. Rip thought eliminating Muttaqi would end it, that's why he was so obsessed with getting him in Afghanistan. Like Chase said, Michael wanted to be the next Bin Laden, then he was taken out of the mix. They eliminated a Boco Haram group, they wiped out Michael/Akmal's super Jihadi's, they destroyed all the immediate and directly ancillary targets, but like the Hydra they keep cutting off heads and they keep growing back. The terrorist network of Muttaqi-Michael-Akmal-Akmal's sister would continue to exist and remain deadly. War without end.

I think Na'omi is my favorite character in the series.

"yet they sure seemed to suffer from the typical Hollywood ailment of CHS (Can't Hit Shit). One nameless guy is wounded at the start, then after that they fire half a clip and miss everybody. Yes Bear gets hit, protecting a Nigerian girl of course, but doesn't suffer any serious injury and Rip gets hit, but come on even I could hit a guy charging down a elevated walkway 3 feet wide."

I actually thought it was spot on. Except occasionally when a Jihadi would lose his fire discipline or someone was firing to suppress, very little Hollywood spray and pray. Semi-auto, single or two shot volleys. Notice the rate of fire from the SEALS slower, better shot placements and even then pay attention how few of their rounds were actually hits. When bullets are flying both ways, your adrenaline is pumping, and you have to pop up, acquire, aim, shoot, it's not like firing on the range. It all has to occur in fractions of a second. That's where practice, thousands and thousands of rounds fired and real world experience makes a difference between alive and dead. When "Bear" took the hit and went down, he vocalized, "I'm good, hit the plate" he took the round in his plate carrier. Then when Akmal was moving forward to finish Bear, he took one or more rounds in his plate carrier, I thought to myself, aim for the face or groin or he's not going down. Then Fish Bait, the teams designated marksman, shot him in the throat. I don't think he would have been able to make that shot had Akmal continued to fire rounds to keep the other SEALS pinned. As it was he shifted his focus to Bear and the girl, with no rounds heading his way, Fish Bait had the time to pop up/out and place the shot. Also, the SEALS didn't just walk over the Jihadi's, they put up a pretty good fight. The team on the roof, from the radio chatter, I inferred was held up. Rip's former team was stalled for a while, I also remember something about a failed breach stated or over the radio.
I liked the SEALS doing a mag change when they rushed so they wouldn't run dry when they reached their next cover.
The part where Na'omi thanked Bear and hugged him and told him to thank Richard for everything, well done. His saving the girl and the hug from Na'omi saved him and the actors portrayed it. He was heading for a very dark place after popping the nanny and dragging the little girl past the dead bodies in an earlier episode. In a real sense, In saving the girl he was actually saving himself.

"Fastforward the family stuff. Can see where someone would be concerned about that aspect if they lived that life.
I'm just looking for the action/main plot."

Then you're missing most of the truths contained in the series, it just becomes a cartoon or a video game. It's when you delve into the mental and personal costs to the warrior and those around him, only then do you get a full understanding.

IX Season 1 Episode 8 Review: End Game
    at March 8, 2017 11:00 pm
    .

Thank you SIX for gutting me.

I wish there was a higher ranking than a five star to give to SIX Season 1 Episode 8. This episode deserves more. The entire cast deserves more. Rip deserves more.

I'm so glad that the series was picked up for a second season. What happened to Rip...someone on the team needs to avenge.

This season did not end the way I wanted it to end. Sure, Rip and the girls were saved, but I wanted Rip to ride off into the sunset with Na'omi.

Wouldn't they have made a great couple? Didn't Rip deserve some sort of happiness after all he'd been through?

He knew he had to be held accountable for what he did to Michael's brother, but would he really have suffered severe consequences for his actions? Michael's brother was not innocent. Armed or not.

The guy was a traitor to his country and had Rip not killed him, he probably would have killed innocent lives himself.

But there's also a deeper question here which I think I might've delved into before. Did Michael's brother really deserve to die?

Should he have been taken prisoner instead? Would that have been the right thing to do?

How do you even know what the right thing to do is in these types of situations?

Did Rip really step over the line? Where is and what is the line anyway?

Rip was right all along. Muttaqi was responsible for everything Rip said he was even at the time he was scoffed at by Bear.

Rip has been around the bush. He saw lots more than his teammates had at the time. Now Caulder and Bear understand better because they've seen more.

The lines are not always black and white. There's lots of blur.

I started off this season hating -- absolutely hating -- Rip. I thought he was the worst person on the planet. I saw no point to him. And maybe he saw no point to himself.

He was a glorified security guard who ended up finding himself in a sticky situation. He could have just done nothing. Let whatever happened happen.

Instead, he decided to act. He decided to do whatever he could to protect Na'omi and the girls. He had lost everything. His wife. His team. Himself.

But he quit feeling sorry for himself and became the man he was when he first became a SEAL. He became a hero.

After it was all over, it was obvious he didn't see himself as one.

He wasn't interested in the party for him, no matter how tempted he was by the idea of Jackie's guacamole.

He wasn't interested in the guy who shook his hand and wanted to pay for his meal.

Saving Na'omi and the girls redeemed him, but in his mind he was guilty. He was not the hero everyone thought he was. At least that's what he thought.

Some people might say he had it coming to him when the girl shot and killed him. What goes around comes around.

But is that line of thinking the right way to think as an American?

I'm not gung ho about war and all it involves. I was taken aback when Rip killed Michael's brother. But I also didn't know the whole story.

Now that I do, there's still no clear feeling. Part of me is glad Rip did what he did for the reasons I pointed out above. - that Michael and his brother would have killed innocent people. The other part of me says how would Rip have known this?

But if you look at it logically, why were Michael and his brother where they were? It certainly wasn't because they were touring the country or were volunteers for a good cause.

It really makes you think about things that are going on in our own country right now. How far is too far to protect our country?

We saw the influence Michael had with the girl. How many more are there like her? How do we protect ourselves from those types of situations?

Should Rip have killed Michael when he killed his brother? Hindsight says yes, but where does it end? And can we really stop any of it anyway?

Despite all the questions and reasonings for and against Rip's actions in Afghanistan, he did not deserve to die the way he did.

He didn't deserve to die at all. He deserved a second chance.

Instead, it was ripped from him by Michael. And now the rest of the team and their families are in danger.

What was supposed to be a happy homecoming, just turned deadly. The terror has followed them home.

What will happen once they find Rip's body? What will they do when they see the video the girl posted online? How will they protect their families?

I was so happy to see that it was Jackie who decided that Buddha couldn't possibly live a domestic life like she wanted. Granted, he wasn't too thrilled about the mother-in-law moving in, but he also understood that Jackie needed her own life, and she needed help to do it.

Even though he didn't show it, he probably breathed a huge sigh of relief that he wasn't being forced to leave the SEALs. His team is as much a part of him as his family is.

Caulder made up with his daughter which was great.

Bear and Lena have a lot to work through. Even though he claims he's ready to have a child, I don't think he is. He certainly won't be in that frame of mind once he learns about Rip. Out of everyone, he's the one that going to go all hog wild trying to revenge for Rip's death.

It's a good thing Lena took Gloria's advice. (I disagree with this I think Lena was wrong to leave. She wanted to know what Bear was dealing with then when she didn't want to face the truth she bailed) She's not going to be able to deal with Bear after this. Bear is going to become someone completely different.

Think about it. You go on a mission to save a guy's life only to bring him home and he's murdered by the very people who you just saved him from. That's going to mess with your mind.

Even at the end of this review, my heart is still broken about Rip (the over of Neil Young's "Hey Hey My My" didn't help.) And yes, I'm still wishing he would've ended up with Na'omi.

Even though it took me a little while to warm up to the show, I have really come to love all the players and stories of the series. I like being able to see the two lives the SEALs have to live.

Most of all, I really like the way the series makes me think about right and wrong and all the in-betweens when it comes to war and all it involves.

I'm not saying the season finale was bad, just a little less good compared with the previous episodes, mainly over the extended battle sequence. Its difficult when though out the season Michel's Jihadist's are made out to be something altogether something different than the usual canon fodder, then turn out to be just the same canon fodder. It also seemed like those choppers hovering as they did would have been much easier targets than they seemed to be. I will defer to you the depiction of their tactics as being accurate, though I was impressed over all. Lena's departure and Caulder's reconciliation seemed a little like 3rd act dramatic's, but not enough to call jumping the shark.

Walter Goggins is a superb actor and makes a specialty of making unlikable characters seem likable when its all said in done. If you have not already seen him in Justified and The Shield I heartily recommend both, especially The Shield. His character (a dirty cop) in that was completely loathsome through out the series, yet watching his character slowly self destruct during the last two seasons was painfully heart-breaking. Nor should it be considered a done deal that Rip is in fact dead, at least until I see a "He's dead Jim" scene. He was 'killed' in the first episode of Justified with a shot to the center chest by a .45, until the producers looked at how good the dailies were and decided to re-shoot the ending with him being pulled off in a ambulance. I can even see how they would explain it, the girl's video was said to be streaming in real-time on the internet, and assuming Intell was keeping a eye on Jihadi websites they might have first responders moving pretty quick. By the by, not to flog a expired equine, she seemed to be a damn good shot from the hip and though a jacket pocket........:)

I would fully endorse anyone watching the series and eagerly look forward to season two, but as good as it is, it isn't flawless, just as Vikings has a few issues as well despite being a darn fine show.

Sorry my man Poppy, I neglected to answer this part of your question. Looks to me to be an H&K M320. It can be configured for under barrel use like the M-203 or for stand-alone use as Budda used it in a couple of episodes. Heres more info on it:

It irritates me when a season ends with a cliffhanger, even though I know it's so you'll to tune in next year. We're left wondering if Rip is cleared and comes back to the team, and if so, does he go back to find Na'omi and start a home life like the other guys?

    Enjoyed SIX.
All the family stuff is too soap opera. I lack the emotion chip. ..
The Sopranos was the best series for me. It was all about the gang. Family was not really the focal point (still there though), or even 2nd at bat.
It was about conniving, back stabbing, dirty sex, etc. ..When they got into the kids and family stuff- soap opera territory - the show suffered.
When Sopranos had to rely on the soap opera family/kids drama- it had jumped the shark. And it went downhill. my simple opinion.

Lousy for names- but Rip not accepting the kudos and free dinner from an admirer- was just plain rude. I got that he was torn. But folks are not mind readers. They were on his side, supporting him. Maybe symptoms of PTSD
Rip may not be dead. Just like the other guy didn't die (neck shot?), who then sent a zombie to attack rip.

If the writers were true- they'd show/express how religious zombies are created... But that may be too hot for primetime.

Thanks for the HK M320...It did look very HK. Thought it may have been a much lower caliber. Looked like they were fighting within 10-20 meters, which might be dangerous for everyone. ..i thought maybe a 20mm repeating launcher, which would be better suited for close combat.
..Were the guys using HK rifles/smg?...Why would the HK launcher be any better than the old school one. Maybe a product endorsement.
