"Smart Phone" Broken Screen Advice

Have to be smarter than the phone.
S5. Dropped from no more than 3 feet onto vinyl flooring...Still powers up, can receive phone calls, message alerts.
Can't retrieve any of my stuff, as screen is broken. Need to type in code on screen to enable transfer of files.
Can't use the new tools to extract...Can i find an old S5 screen, remove mine and replace- in order to type in code, transfer to new device?
Have a lot of photo's, files, resumes, contacts...it's been an unexpectedly large loss. Foolish not to have backed up. I disabled the google stuff because i knew it wasn't secure. Look at the yahoo hack.
Any help would be appreciated.

Screen swaps quite easy if it's not a viciously glued one and you can buy the whole digitiser unit cheaply rather than just the glass.
Glue doesn't make it impossible, just much more annoying.

S5 a big seller, so guessing someone in Canuckistan will be flogging things like these for a similar price:

Ones including the digitiser assembly are more expensive - sometimes more than a whole second hand phone...

If you don't already have them - get a set with spudgers (the prying tools. They are very useful).
Go slow, and heed the words of the Hitch-hiker's Guide...

If cowardice strikes, that's understandable, but what the hell - it's a few quid risked to save a few hundred.
In the UK little shops and shoe repair sort of places charge a variable amount for a new Samsung screen fitting, depending on model it can go from not much to, again, more than a secondhand phone (Many will only actually repair Samsung and Apple, so there's that...)

(log in with your Google/Chrome/Android account. If you haven't got one, then possibly the details you used to set up the phone - I'm a plain android devotee so have forgotten what other systems do.)
Though as it's Samsung, you might have been connected to their grim system. Used to rely on a horrible program called Kies, but I dunno if that's dead now.

Last ditch data recovery.

Shamefully, phone-breaking is a modern day tragedy.
Maybe not worse than Hitler, but somewhere in the Pol Pot area for the first few days.

I'm thinking of going back to the 80's. 90's - things were so much easier then.
Don't have to remember a dozen different codes/passwords for every transaction (that has to be changed every 3 months).

Noticed the new samsung commercial, where the test included testing a pointy thing pressing on the screen. Phone flexed aboot 1/4 inch.
If my new phone breaks after a 3 foot drop again... samsung will receive a poorly written letter from this author.

 

Currently an awesome thing.
For a few iterations it was patchy, but most recent resets or device shifts are almost magical to watch. (While also ever so slightly unnerving...)
They are finally getting this stuff right.

And, yeah, they have my data, etc. etc. etc.
I make a conscious choice, and I'm happy with the return deal.

 

A guy I know set his phone down while operating an industrial guillotine paper cutter...



I'm pretty sure replacing the screen won't help.

Google may have some of my info...went to YouTube on new phone and there was history of videos/searches I'd not accessed on new phone.
Didn't like that.
I was logged in without ever logging in.
Quit the cable/Internet.
TV was zombifying me.
Just might buy a ukelaili.
Have to work off this 4 inch screen now...hard to view/use site on phone...so my time here will be limited. Sniff.
