Not just growing up but a spell in the Marine Corp no doubt sharpens one's tongue !I would be far beyond hypocrital if I said I lacked a suitable catagory of appropriate words to suit all occasions . If a 1100 pound steer steps on your toe all sorts of words come out ! In my youth most of the expletives, now that is a pretty sissy synonym itself, took the Lord's name in vain. that seems to have disappeared nowadays. And being a farm boy bitch was commonly used for , well, calling a female dog a bitch but if was rarely applied to people. I shot myself through the calf muscle with a Ruger Bearcat , at 15, trying to fast draw, and the first thing out of my mouth was "Son of a bitch !!!!!!!" In war, to make this more on topic, , soldiers have called call the enemy all sorts of names to dehumanize them and I am sure the same happens with political enemies and indeed they are that now !! I think it is a national embarrassment that we could not find two better candidates that Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump and name calling is indigenous to politics so that is common place and I no doubt over reacted given the language of today in life, TV, movies and music. While teaching an architectual studio I ask a pretty, sweet, normally well spoken young woman how her progect was going. she looked at me and smiles, then looked at her drawings and said, "Well it is just all f**ked up ! I tried hard not to blush and all such words have just entered our vocabulary rather casually. I do not think I am a sanctimonious ass, would hate for people to know all of my life's history . So I will not complain about words anymore unless I stump my toe, trip over the dog, have a computer blue screen or spill a cup of hot coffee in my lap then they will come from me. Loved the story about your wife, I would love to meet that woman !!!! I tend to laugh about mishaps now, even serious ones. Just glad the hall monitors here let me stay !!! I too, great enjoy our "conversations" here. Gaines
To be honest, I have not used the "C" word to a woman. However, the "F" word is extremely valuable. It can be used as any part of speech. I try not to use it in mixed company, but is useful in male company. I have found that it is much more casually used by younger females. It still makes me start. I guess I am old-fashioned.
To both Lou and Gaines. Never apologize for being old fashioned. I think society would be much better off if we were more genteel. You are both fine gentlemen and I feel honored to be able to interact with both of you.
It's good to know that although some words in British-English and American-English have different meanings that Cee yoU Next Tuesday is the same .
Always laughed at twat. The Brits have a way with words and phrases that make it acceptable to use the best sailors slang in public.
Lol. Poppy, was wondering when you'd pop in. I agree, it always seems when a slew of profanity comes out of a fellow from across the pond. And just for the record, like you USMC, the "c" word is completely off limits in my wife's presence as well. With 2 little ones at home we keep our wits about us 99.9% of the time. But when out on the town we reign nothing in, lol.
I'm currently moving and sorting some forums to make things a bit more organized & sane. No posts will be removed, though forums and sub-forums will be changing locations and structure. With our previous forum subdivisions and the import of two full discussion boards (War44 and TanksinWorldWar2), we currently have some 375 forums. There is much duplication and overlap, and some organizational structure is needed. Mind the dust.
Another round of tweaks and edits to speed up the site a smidgen. For those who care, php was upgraded to version 7 and optimized, which translated into some measurable results. The biggest speed improvements will occur with cleaning up the database tables, which is still on the to-do list.
