Never loved baseball... Sigh... Here in Portal, AZ, we share the pain of those baseball fans in Morristown, and have a similar problem with the stench of communism blowing over from Rodeo, NM. And for the record, New Mexico ain't new, and ain't Mexico. The whole state is based on a lie.
Lefty has tried to create an opposite and equally derogatory term. Hillary called us deplorables. Except we embrace it (and won the election). Snowflake is an apt and appropriate term for the emotionally weak and frail minded. Hehehee
Which makes no sense, since the Anti-First Amendment (Anti-FA) wing of the left has taken to burning college campuses that dare to allow free speech.
I helped hijack the thread with my comments. I also apologize. A number of recent threads on this Forum have devolved into personal attacks. Most of them do not in any way relate to politics. I do, however, see more gratuitous divisiveness on some other Forums I frequent. Maybe it's the times.
I found the comments around the adverts amusing. The statist beliefs of the page's author are in full bloom with the comments about "banning" these advertisements. "Banning" assumes action by the government. They were never banned. They were found to no longer be effective at the intended audience. The government has no place in determining how I should be tempted in making a purchase of legal product. The ads were a product of their time, directed at an audience the companies thought would be receptive. Apparently some were and some weren't, as some of the products I've never heard of and some are still around (MG notwithstanding, of course, as it was a crap automobile and the company would have folded even without the weak ad-campaign mentioned in the page." They were never banned as so regularly proclaimed by the web author. Oh, guess in sense, the CEOs and the boards of directors may have 'banned" them, but that is an incorrect use of the word. In spite of the desires of certain segments of the population, there are still mostly adhered-to gender roles. My wife will still tell you that they best Christmas gift she ever got from me was a kitchen appliance, bought some 30 years ago and that she still uses quite prodigiously. They best she ever gave me was, oh dear, power tools. I guess I should be just as a happy to get a mixer as I would a drill, impact driver, reciprocating saw combo? Now, that does not mean that either gender is lesser or greater because they swim against the tide and have occupation that have in the past been associated with the other. Far from it. My wife chose to stay at home (though not full time, as income was still a bit of an issue) and I chose to work full time. We could have reversed things, but neither of us would have been as happy, but if a man chooses to stay home and raise a child, more power to him, especially so if his offspring are males of the species and need direct and constant civilizing. Oh, and this thread goes to The Stump.
I found it amusing that James Dean, in "Rebel Without A Cause", was extremely upset that his parents weren't following normal gender stereotypes. He was rebeling against non-traditional parents.
I don't care about James Dean. My comment was about the article and its author's motivations, not some off the wall BS. I personally think most of the ads are at best odd and not based on current mores.
"They were found to no longer be effective at the intended audience". I believe that the government driven by the PC rabble should remember humans are intelligent enough to make decisions regarding ads such as these. Very similar is that I will not enter a eatery or shop that does not use English on their outside advertising. They obviously do not want me or my kind, but are targeting a specific market, good luck with that. We are a traditional family, my wife figures it's the man's job to take out the garbage and pick up the dog poop in the yard. I'm thinking of calling the PC police on her, but I am too afraid of her.
