The news this week is that the US has successfully tested a laser system mounted on an Apache - Has "successfully acquired and hit an unmanned target with its laser gun - with a slant range of 1.4km" "This proves the feasibility of laser attack from an Apache" - I Wonder if its portable enough for the new Venom? Manufactured by Raytheon, the laser is silent and invisible to the human eye and has a near perfect straight trajectory - making it more effective in addressing rocket, artillery, mortar fire, unmanned aircraft and cruise missiles...No using "bullets" or Missiles...this system is also more cost effective per shot. Could spawn a new helo designed to carry one or more of these weapons IMO... "The future is NOW"
"...this system is more cost effective per shot." While I won't directly disagree with that, I'll point out that the cost of managing a high enough power plant to utilize the laser in the first place costs much, much more than a bullet any day of the week. Still....lasers on Apaches. Who wouldn't think that's cool.
A single Hellfire costs 150 000K! Wouldn't take long to become cost effective...Interestingly there is no report on how this weapon reacts to humans...Couple of blokes talking in the street and suddenly a hole starts burning through the head of one? What role could mirrors have in defeating this?
