Hello and thank you to all who served. I came across this forum while doing some research on my Grandfather who was a POW at Stalag 12A to 9B. My name is Paul Resendez Jr, Great Grandson to Pete C Resendez. Pete passed away back on July 4th 2014. Talk about a man who was so proud to have served our country! If anyone has any information on my grandfather and would like to share its appreciated. I'd love to find out as much as possible about his war days. Thank you Much respect, Paul
Thank you. Looking forward to meeting everyone, especially those who's family members were in the same camp.
Welcome to the Forums, Paul. I found a few things about your grandfather, though I presume you already know at least some of this info. Pvt. Pete C. Resendez (ASN 39587667) arrived in the ETO via the Army Replacement system. He was assigned from the 71st Replacement Battalion and joined E Company, 410th Infantry Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division on 12 Dec 1944. On 14 January 1945 he was promoted to the rank of Private First Class. On 27 January 1945, he was listed as Missing in Action, Line of Duty, since 24 Jan 45 and was dropped from the Company rolls. More research can be done on the 410th Infantry page of the 103rd Infantry Division World War II Association website which has an excellent collection of unit records.
It's not always so easy. Fortunately, the 103rd Association has taken the time to put a lot of records on their website, which is not the norm. I recommend that you request his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) from the NARA, if you have not done so already.
