Thanks, Opana. I got the OMPF document from the National Archives, but that was the only document that they sent. I called them and they said there are other documents that are non-archival and that my dad has to sign the form to obtain a copy. I'm hoping they are more detailed.
Since there was a bronze service star on his Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and he got an award for the Philippine Liberation, I would guess he was in the Philippine Campaign. Just a guess, you understand. Someone else may be able to give you better information. You can find more information about the service star on his Philippine Medal by looking it up.
Thanks Lou. Yes, I'm hoping more documents will shed more light on those. From what I can find on the internet, those particular ribbons and service stars could overlap in some instances and not in others. I do have photos from the Philippines and New Guinea. For some of the photos, I have New Guinea as part of the filename, but the people look Filipino. Not that I'm an anthropology expert, but I thought that at the time, New Guinea was pretty much all aboriginal tribes. In any event, I know he was in both locations.

Okay, well the reason I was wondering is that if there is a photo or photo negative, I would like to get a good digital copy instead of a document copier quality image. I don't know how I can get something like that by just mailing in the request. At the same time, if I just go myself, I won't have access to it.
I have two portable scanners, Cannon LiDE 100 and 200, a Brother page scanner. all work off a USB port on my laptop, and three digital cameras that take pix up to 18 meg. I'd rather have my own pix than some minimum wage/minimum effort cat's output.
