I just joined today, and I'm looking forward to meeting more WWII enthusiasts and researchers like myself. I work for a company called Tonalite Games, and we are currently building a Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) based on WWII. My intention is to use these forums as a source for gathering not only information that I cannot find on my own, but also collecting more sources of information. I am pleased to meet you all.
Welcome aboard. Did you know that Yahoo has a professional gamers email list? It's pretty evenly divided between military and industry. Might be worth checking out. Dunnigan owns the list.
Welcome Benjamin! You will be surprised how much you can learn here! We would love to hear more about that WW2 MMO as well, and hopefully give you some accurate, realistic, and helpful info.
Absolutely! It's going to be full sim, including infantry, armored, air and naval combat, as well as logistics objectives for those interested in the "grass eating" side of gaming, such as running supplies, and combat engineering. We're still in the very early stages, but we will have a booth at E3 next summer.
Wow! That sound like quite the undertaking? Is it going to be more of a First person Shooter type game, or a real-time strategy game?
There will be both, more or less. It is a first person shooter/sim, but an overlying concept we'll be incorporating will be a high command of players who will determine the battle strategy for their respective side/country. Those orders will directed to the players in the field, directing them to cities or towns for assault or defense. The map itself will be 1/4 scale of Europe, from England to North Africa. So we're looking at 800,000-1 million square kilometers.
This may be a link to it. I subscribed a long time ago and don't remember details on it. You should be able to find it via yahoo groups if this doesn't work: Yahoo! Groups
Sound interesting, hopefully all goes well with the development and design, thanks for the info Benjamin!
Thanks a lot. Currently my challenge is finding pre-WWII Normandy architecture and buildings. Proving difficult, but I posted a thread in the forums and hopefully I'll get some help pointing me in that direction. Thanks a lot! I'll check them out.
I saw your thread about that, I'm afraid I can't help with that, but I have no doubt someone else here can provide you with some archival photos of Pre-War France.
Cheers Benjamin, welcome to the site! Please update us on your progress. I'd be interested in any game that covers WWII.
dear Benjamin, Many iranian like war games. I worked with Khanwars and Army Duel, as Translator. I would be glad to help you for translating to Persian.
