Hello everyone, Just signed up and like a lot of you I am here to learn more about my grandfather's service. He and I share the same name. I have been curious about the details of his service for many years. I will be 50 years old soon. My mother knows very little about his service, but we do have a lot of clues and artifacts. I look forward to sharing more with all of you in the hopes that we can learn more. I am a US citizen. I have also lived abroad in Malta for a few years for work, so very familiar with the Lascaris War Rooms and the details of the Maltese resistance. Thanks! Pete
Welcome aboard Pete. Per Otto's General Orders grab your "spud" peeler, you have to do a week of KP. During which time FormerJughead will probably come along and incentive PT you periodically just to get you in shape. Bobby (A58) will probably come along and yell a good bit, but ignore him, he's been known to hoist a few brewski's while on duty. He's also been known to associate with women of ill repute so avoid going out with him if and when you get liberty. Me, avoid like the plague, as my son told his friend once, don't let my Dad plan the party, someone always goes to jail. Slipdigit reminded me that I forgot to give you your weekly safety briefing so here goes; "If it smells like trout, back the f**k out!" Just kidding, since the title of your thread is "Just Enlisted", I figured I'd give you the authentic experience. Good luck with your search. Your best bet is to post you request for information here: Information Requests Provide as much information as you have, you'd be surprised what small details might help. The forum guru's will come along and you'd be amazed at the amount of information they can retrieve. They're also great about pointing you in the right direction for making additional inquiries and for directing you to additional resources. Enjoy your stay here and again Welocme aboard!
Welcome. I'll echo Bob (USMCPrice). Provide as much information and detail as you can. There is a lot of expertise here and we'll do our best to help.
Mother-in-law said similar the other day. I'm still in my 40s at the moment. Clinging onto that for awhile.
