IMG_5164.JPG I found this helmet 18-20 years ago. I was tending the lawn of a customer when I noticed a huge pile of "stuff" set out for the trash to pick up. People are strange when it comes to throwing stuff in the trash. Anyhow Mrs.Johnson and I were talking after I finished up her lawn she was making a fuss about the pile of stuff being in her yard and how the kids came in and argued about who was gettin what .. haha (just a lonely elderly lady) well turns out the gentleman who owned the house had been in a old folks home for some years and had passed a few days prior. Kids came in and cleaned out the house. So we walked over and I started moving things to keep from killing her grass when I found this helmet.. well Ms.Johnson started reminiscing.. how the youngest son went wore this helmet everyday one summer. She made remarks that he(neighbor) a very strict and stern man but always seemed lost n that her and her husband assumed it was war related. So other than that I haven't been able to find out much.. I've not seen one with the badge on it.

Hey Rufus! This was (my guess) a second lieutenant's helmet by the single bar and looking gold. If it's silver it would be a first lieutenant. That's all the info that is shown.

Wels'ir I had initially thought it was. However I sought out a few "online appraisers" and one fella in particular said it was just discoloration due to the oxidation from being soldered.
I've searched the web pretty thorough and have only found two other helmets with the ranking bar attached. One happened to be on eBay and something about the whole helmet whispered forgery. From the yin-yang to the John Rambo autograph! Haha
