Hello! Thought I would say hi and introduce myself. I'm Natacha, I'm 30, and I'm from Montreal, Canada. My grandfather served during WWII in Sicily. I travel solo every year to follow my passion for the war, mostly in the eastern European countries, and I'm pretty much always planning a new trip! My main interest is the Shoah and the camps, I've visited several of them over the years. For example my avatar is a pic I took in Bełżec last summer. I speak both English and French and I speak a very bad German, which I'm learning on my own. On a non-history note, I'm a metalhead, a lab technician and a caffeine addict. See you around! Natacha
G'day and welcome...(im a metalhead too...old stuff early Slayer etc) Australia was involved in the war...I hope you are planning a trip down under!
Then join the line behind the women...! Speaking of ACDC...watched a video of him (Bon Scott) in an earlier band...where he "sang" and played the recorder!!!! But we digress....
Next trip is Estonia and Latvia, in fact! But hey, Australia, maybe one day! And sorry guys, I'm more into black metal hehehe

Hi. So, you are a Dark tourist !!! someone who likes military and war related places, battle grounds, castles, fortifications, crash sites , etc. ... about learning languages, I wish you luck. it's good. i've learnt RU, HY, HU, RO, PL, SK, and CZ on my own.
Yes I guess I would call myself a dark tourist: camps, bunkers, massacre sites, battlegrounds. It comes from a real interest in WWII, needless to say. I wouldn't be spending so damn much on these trips if I didn't have a genuine passion. For me, history is not only in books, I have to go see these sites in person, to get a feel of the place. And how I wished I spoke so many languages like you! German is really kicking my ass but I'll get it eventually. Next is Polish!
Welcome to the Forum! Fellow newbie here, and I gotta say this is a great forum. I'm really interested in traveling as well, and the Battlefields of Europe is a huge dream of mine to do someday, especially the Eastern front.
I'm with Bill on this one, if I had the money I would visit battlefields of WW1 and WW2 across the world, but I still have yet to go to a Civil War battleground, so that's priority for me.
The problem with us North Americans is the damn plane ticket... that's 1000 to 1500 Canadian dollars depending on the season. That's a big part of a travel budget! I budget like crazy to afford these trips and live pretty simply but I wouldn't live otherwise
