23andMe says I'm 99.9% Irish/English. Family history says I'm descended from 8 couples who fled Ireland (they were Prots) on the same ship. They all changed their names on Ellis Island, so I have no hope of finding anything else on them.

Actually, the Pennsylvania Dutch are Germans. Not Dutch. The word Deutsch is what the Germans refer to themselves, the language they speak, and where they live (Deutschland, as in the song, Deutschland Uber Alles).

    Read all about it:

Born, raised and live in Mississippi. The Grand Duchy of Hushpuckena is the ancestral home (since 1890 anyway). Mother's people are from SE Louisiana.

Born in the coal regions of Pennsylvania in the town of Coaldale. But actually was raised in the farm country of eastern Pa. Amish country, where I used to help the Amish pick tobacco for $1.00 an hour in the late 1950’s and eat homemade ice cream with them on hot August evenings on their front lawn at the farm house, when the work was done. The family I worked for had few boys, so they always needed help in late August when it was time to cut and load the tobacco stalks onto the wagons that were pulled by two work horses or two mules. I enjoyed being around the farm and the Amish were good people to work for. I now live in Franklin County, Pa. Still Amish country.

So you didn't end up much further from home than I did. There are worse fates; especially if home is a nice place.

All my living family members were born in the United States. Most including myself are from the Upstate of South Carolina. However, my Great-Grandmother is from Georgia. Almost all my family is Western European, the only exception is my Grandpa's (Mom's Dad) Family has Cherokee origins. My Grandma's (Mom's Mom) Family is Scottish. My Dad's Family is English and German. My Grandpa's (Dad's Dad) Family is English. It's where I get my last name. My Grandma's (Dad's Mom) Family is German.

I had always assumed that I was 100% Norwegian/Swede. However, AncestryDNA says I'm 65% Scandinavian, 23% being Irish, 9% Finnish, with the rest being a bit of this and that. I was told a friend that I had found out I was almost a quarter Irish. He suggested that it might be more likely an indication that my Viking ancestors left a little DNA behind in Ireland. Of course, that doesn't explain why I love Guinness. :D
