When I was back in high school, a good friend of mine bought me a deck of cards with the aircraft recognition from an aviation museum. Loved it and still have it. Does anyone know if they had these back in the 40s?
Aircraft recognition playing cards? I'm sure they did. When I was still in the Army (1977-80) and assigned to the 82nd Abn Div, I was in an anti-tank platoon. We were issued playing cards with silhouettes (front and flank views) of tanks (US, Nato, Warsaw Pact, and others) to study. on. They even had tank identification charts posted on the inside door of the stalls in the latrine, you know, to brush up on potential enemy AFV while you were pounding one out. The Army thinks of everything.
They are reproductions...I asked because the quality of the cards(plane images) was too good compared to the originals I had seen. Action Products International, Inc. released them back in the late 1990s - You can find decks of these on EBay.
Well, damn me! I don't know what I've been shooting at every morning just after 8, but it isn't a Focke-Wulf at all! .
Ah, disguised incoming. That would need a few shots to keep 'em honest. I do the same thing with the people in the fake post office uniforms. They learned.
