Again I’m writing a book and I’m a civilian. I came across a punishment record from deck logs that said — Loss of 2 liberty's I know liberty's are generally a rest or vacation break from the action when ported or otherwise. When it says lose 2 does that mean he cannot go out for 2 vacations when they come up or does navy somehow give X Amount of liberties out and he use them when you want? Any insight ?
Liberty is leave from the ship granted to people who don't have duty on board. If you're good you get your liberty card and can go to town. He lost two chances to go have a beer. Junior enlisted men and unmarried men had their liberty end at midnight back in the day. Senior enlisted and officers could stay out all night.
Book is called — Letters for Annie: Memories From World War II I’m writing about 4 brothers — 3 of which in Navy on various boats. The other in US Army. This file describes the jobs of the enlisted men: HyperWar: Destroyers--Enlisted Billet Descriptions (NAVPERS 16,486) Most jobs didn't vary a lot between ship classes, with carriers and subs being major exceptions (and then only in the mission specific job categories like flight crews.)
For the LCT check the Coast Guard's WWII sites, they'll have more information on the "gator freighters".

Cressman's The Official Chronology of the U.S. Navy in World War II is good for "big picture" dates and places.
Opana didn't mention that he previously contributed a lot to the site and as I understand it was pretty much in charge of it. Others have helped a great deal as well. Not to minimize what Otto is or has done. Opana can probably list a bunch of others who deserve various degrees of credit. A huge amount of info there including many primary sources.
