I have started to wonder what my great uncle's division was during World War II. I will admit, I haven't started much research on it yet. I was going to see if I could find some pictures of him in uniform to see if I can find him with his division's patch showing. Are there any suggestions on ways to find his division other than looking through tons of photos? Thanks.
Do you have access to his separation documents? I think that would be a good place to start. Do you care to share his name? That would give us a handle on who he was and would help in research.
Cemetery memorials sometimes include the unit, if it's a VA furnished memorial. Newspaper articles, like an obit sometimes add the unit. Post what you have, there are some pretty savvy researchers aboard.
The best place to start is probably by reading this advice https://www.archives.gov/files/research/military/ww2/ww2-participation.pdf Then talk to your relatives. Find out if they have his service records. There is a database of Army enlistments as well. Did he survive the war? If not the ABMC data base may show his grave.
