Had another air show yesterday. Two zoomies having fun targeting the clueless ice fisherman on the lake. Jumped on the sled after they rattled the windows and spent next 10 minutes sitting in the middle of the lake trying to get a video on the cell phone. You could make out they were carrying a full load on the racks and the sound was bone jarring. Camera is sitting by the door for next intercept.

Trees are tapped, now for some 40' weather. Still have 24" ice on the lakes up here.

I live near the now closed Joint Air Base - Willow Grove. We used to see A-10s over our house regularly. In the past we saw the Blue Angels, the Thunderbirds, and even the Stealth Bomber. It was always a treat.

It's ~$85/bottle here, so drop BIG hints. You can work down from there to the Double Cask and then the Single Cask. I keep all three for special guests. My boot camp company command is visiting next month, we'll be doing the Caribbean Cask.

So how are you doing up there Lou, with all these nor'easters coming and going? I reckon that a flammenwerfer would come in handy clearing the driveway eh?

Most of the last snow has melted, so we're pretty clear. It's just pretty cold. I'll be glad when summer comes.

How long were y'all sneaux bound? Or did it get that bad in your parts?

A friend of mine works for Entergy, a power company. He's up in eastern Pennsylvania stringing wire, replacing transformers and generally freezing his butt off while up in the bucket. Not one bit of complaining from him or his crew though. Says that they are more than happy to return the favor that power company guys from up north came to help out when just about every inch of power lines in southeastern Louisiana were downed during Katrina.

Never really snow bound here. Temps got high enough that most of it melted. Great respect for the linemen. They have a tough job.

Here is an organization that just skyrocketed to the top my 'must support list!

    Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation

Merle trained in a Stearman in 1942 and recently took to the air once again.
76 years later he returns to his youth.

Recently recalled a log entry made by a grumpy watchstander:

2419 My relief has still not shown up.

He told the pilot he had hours in that model aircraft during primary training and if he wasn't happy he'd take control. :). Once an instructor always an instructor.
Said it was a good flight.

When I saw the photo I thought, "Red Baron?, I just smoked his ass".

The World Hockey WC Games have started. Perhaps not valued in the Canada/US NHL watchers but we are over here. And we have the Finnish Team 1st line-up with 4 men 60- 80 + points scored players in the Nhl.

I've been watching the coverage of the Camp Fire that decimated Paradise California and the surrounding areas. I know formerjughead is in Chico where the air quality is at extreme dangerous levels of smoke and I think highway70 is another member who may be directly affected by the fire. Stay safe guys.

We visited Paradise many times from 1987 to 2000 when my uncle lived there. He moved down to Chico 18 years ago but we would still make a special trip whenever we were out there and drive the Skyway or Neal road to go up near Magalia to collect pinecones from the huge trees. These pinecones are around 12-14" long and 5-6" in diameter. We were there two years ago and took Merle to his dentist, I think it was over by Clark Road, and I think the entire neighborhood is gone. It seems unreal that the town is now basically gone. We know several folks who live there, one couple just moved to Paradise from Chico last summer.
It really was/is a beautiful area and the devastation is to me inconceivable. I'm pretty sure where his house was is totally destroyed as it was Northwest of the Skyway, Nottingham Park, and of several hundred houses the area only had one or two egress roads. Both leading back to the main thoroughfare The Skyway which was completely engulfed by the fire.

CalFire has put up a map which is constantly being updated showing the totality of structures destroyed.
