Dunkirk. Definitely a masterpiece!

 

'The man with the iron heart' or Something like that of Heydrich. Well done but too short to describe the whole story. Some stories claim he was an agent for Canaris. Fron Navy to SS. Perhaps.

The Stronghold a Ukrainian (I think) fantasy film along the lines of a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Subtitled and my only real complaint was some of the sub titles went by awfully fast. Decent special affects, story, and acting. Free to Amazon Prime members.

 

John Thaw Bomber Harris and Bought in Germany a movie Flying fortress B-17 luftkrieg Ueber Europe these Fw 190's with bigger guns and forward strengthened glass looked truly evil attacking face-to-face.

 

Brotherhood of the Wolf a French film that takes place in the 18th Century. It has everything - violence, revenge, mysterious bad guy and his mysterious pet, Monica Bellucci (yum yum), espionage, secret society, hunting of man and beast, et al. I find this film to be visually stunning and the story to be very enjoyable. My version is dubbed, which i prefer over subtitled.

Black Sabbath and 'The end' and last live show in Birmingham of the tour. Even Ozzy was at his best ever. Not a movie really but a great show. Makes you wonder what it would have been like to see their first gigs. Or the first gig of Queen in Finland 1976...

 

I watched "March or Die" (1977) with Gene Hackman, for the first time in years, it's a good movie with an end battle scene that breaks my top 20 best cinematic battles of all time. Even though it's pretty inaccurate and unrealistic (The Berbers didn't do frontal assaults like this) but still entertaining nonetheless.

Watched Deadpool on the weekend...best movie ive watched in 5 years.

 

The Darkest Hour. I liked it, despite the many flaws. Oldman was wonderful.

 

That movie is so bad in so many ways...and not just Gene Hackman hamming it up. The battle scene looks great if its supposed to be in the Erg Chebbi, except Erfoud is about 30 miles from the Erg and is an oasis...in 1920 it was very green and covered in date palms and olive trees and was a thriving town. It's a bit browner now since the dam on the Ziz River is causing desertification, but it is nothing like what is shown in the movie. Nor is it in the Rif. The Rif Mountains are in northeastern Morocco, south of Tangier...and are about 250 miles north of Erfoud. In fact, Erfoud is south of the Middle Atlas and east of the High Atlas. The Rifian Amazigh (Berber is semi-derogatory) are very different from the Amazigh of the Ziz valley, as are the Shilha Amazigh of the High Atlas, but all are also very different from their nomadic cousins, the Toureg in the Sahara. The Rifians mainly battled the Spanish in Tangier and Millila on the Mediterranean coast, it was the Amazigh of the High Atlas, Middle Atlas, and Ziz who battled the French, but mostly in the Zaian War 1914-1921 and then in the ongoing guerilla resistance in the High Atlas into the early 1930s. I doubt any of those operations involved horse and camel-mounted charges though.
