My 'Summer' reading books have arrived. Heavily influenced by watching 'Babylon Berlin' (on netflix, watch in the original German with subtitles!). As much as I love learning about events etc during the War, I have long had an interest in the interwar years and the postwar years that followed. Some google searching lead me to these books and because of the Communist influences in Babylon Berlin (and my realization that I really know little of the rise of Communism or what the USSR was like after WW2) led me to the last two books.

What are you all planning on reading this summer?

    The Weimar Republic
Postwar: A History of Europe since 1945
Hirohito and the Making of Modern Japan
The Rising Sun: The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire
History of the Russian Revolution (Trotsky)
The Gulag Archipelago (complete book by Solzhenitsyn)

    The D-Day companion
    Guadalcanal, Richard B. Frank
Charlie Company, Peter Goldman and Tony Fuller
For Crew and Country, John Wukovits
The Battle for North Africa, John Strawson
The Deadly Brotherhood, the American combat soldier in World War II, John C. McManus

I will never get through them all as I read slow but I picked these and some others up at a used book sale. I have books to read for years to come.

Swan Song is a good read. The collection and assembling of the entries from the broad spectrum of personalities is eye opening.
