Getting back to the original topic concerning Otto's name, I was reminded of my own entry in my family's book . I was aged three at the time and I think it speaks for itself ! "The first thing I realised was that my given Hebrew name would have to go - I had been given the name of "Rooven" which translated into Reuben. I announced to whoever would listen that in future I would only answer to Ronnie, and that is the way it continued from then on. When in l939 all persons were required to register for War Service, I filled in my name as Ronald and thus officially got rid of the Reuben, although when in l949 I first applied for a passport I discovered to my chagrin that according to Whitehall I was still "Reuben, otherwise known as Ronald!" Ron ps I was also known, on one occasion, as Tom Mix :BBC - WW2 People's War - Danke Herr Mix!
Apparently, one of Otto's ancestors was running around in the Chiricahua foothills back in the day, near a place called Silver Creek. The place was rife with colorful characters like Johnny Ringo, the Clantons, etc, but only this Torrero fellow took the long view and named a dirt road after himself.
I do like that the lane appears to drive directly into that looming termite mound. It's a bit of a metaphor for my life.
Here is a new one. My upstairs neighbors are moving out and they decided to disconnect their washer/dryer with all the skill of a dyslexic kangaroo (tiny hands), and my kitchen got flooded. The damage wasn't catastrophic, but the kitchen was unusable so I had to get lunch elsewhere. I decided to stop by the local Panera (soups/sandwiches/salads/etc) and ordered food in person. Here is the result. 20180218_125002 by Otto posted Feb 18, 2018 at 1:22 PM I guess the name "Autumn" is somewhat close to a human name, but I was quite surprised to see this name come up in the queue when my order was ready.
You know, Otto, You should wear your appelationary issues with pride. It's a cool name. I used to work with a surgeon who related this story. He was driving through a seedier part of town (the ghetto) with his his toddler-aged daughter when he was a medical resident. He stopped at a fast food joint and when he rolled up to the drive-through window, the cashier working there commented on his daughter's apparent beauty and asked what her name was. When he replied "Ann," she furrowed her brow and exclaimed, "Ann? That's funny name."
Oh I really, truly like the name Otto, it's much better than other options out there. In my entire life I've only ever met two others with this name, and one of them spelled it with only one "t". The frequent errors in translation only serve as a proof of the rarity of my name, and as entertainment for my wife, who's been calling me "sweet Autumn" all day.
I know a couple. The father of dear friend is named Otto, so he was always Mr. Otto to me. He is 90-something years old and in poor health, but is still quite the sport.
Opana you are clairvoyant. My son got stitches last week or so and they used an Otoscope during the review. Thinking of this thread, I asked the doctor if this was the first time she examined an Otto with and Otoscope, and she said this was the first Otto she had ever treated. The little guy is did great, he earned three zippers on his chin, he took them like a champ. They have since been removed and he wears his new battle scar proudly.
Another "Auto" vs Otto offering, this time from Five Guys burgers. My wife phoned in the order for me to pick up.
Have you tried wearing a name tag? As for the otoscope, I used one once for a purpose the designer hopefully never intended it to be used for.
About three years ago a package arrived at my desk at work, it was a gift from a colleague for a favor I did for him previously. It was a t-shirt with an "Otto the auto pilot" logo on it. I'm not sure if the the thing made it through the move to Texas, but if I can find it I'll snap a photo and post it here.
This is a new one. I ordered in person here, I suspect the cashier thought I was ordering for my wife. Otto vs Autumn by Otto posted Nov 25, 2018 at 3:31 AM
