This is the last post of pictures to this forum topic. I will probably start a new strand on another forum in the future of plane nose art that my father took during the war. If you are interested in seeing if I have any pictures of your relatives, check my cross reference of people and pictures that was one of the first posts that I made to the forum.

Hope that you enjoy the pictures that I have posted. I have many hundreds more that I did not post.

Great pictures. Thanks for posting them. By all means, start another thread. I look forward to it. While I have no relatives in this unit, my father-in-law was a finance officer stationed in the Pacific. We have some pictures of him landing in Sendai after the war. I spoke with him about his service, and he was able to recall some of it. For that reason I always look at pictures like this.

Thank you for the great look at end of war and post-war Itami pictures! Your 19 Nov 2015 "Plane stuck in the mud" is a ship that has the markings of the Black Rams squadron, the 460th Fighter Squadron, and the John J. Smith painted on the canopy rail, a 460th FS pilot - he passed away earlier this year near Seattle, Washington. https://checksixblog.wordpress.com/2015/08/25/black-ram-jj-smith-flies-west/

Hello folks, haven't been on here in quite some time. I was watching the history channel the other day, the episode called The Fall of Japan in color.in a segment of the show they were covering the nose art on the planes. The cameraman starts panning a group of men and to my shock and awe my father Robert LaBounty was in the group. Some of you might want to check it out to see if you recognize any of them.

    Hi All,

Looking for a picture of Capt. Myron Hnatio of the 340FS. There is much about his 5 kills but nothing on the person. The pic is his Thunderbolt "ROLY POLY" at Finschhafen, New Guinea in 1944.

He attained his 5 kills by 11 Mar 1944 then nothing more.

    Thanks

    Darryl

There is a picture of him in Stanaway's book that I will scan today and get it posted for you.

Welcome to the forum Mokyme. Please add anything you can and I'll see what I can find on Lt. Hnatio.

    Hope these help.

Sorry I've missed this but sadly Sasmith728 has not posted for quite some time. I have a CD he graciously sent me that has several hundred photos. I'll go through it and see if I can find anything.

Hi Travis, Sorry I couldn't find any other pictures of Devils Angel. The pictures Sasmith shared from his Grandfathers time in Japan is beyond anything I've ever seen. Over 900 pictures of everyday life immediately after the surrender and numerous photos of the 342nd. I will try to start posting a tad more regularly to the thread. There are many more unidentified pictures of squadron personnel that I'll get posted and hopefully someone, over time, might be able to spot a familiar face.

Here's one to kick things off. 342nd Sqd. Most likely on Ishima photo#154
