Hi everyone, I am trying to help my aunt find information on her father. He was a Tec 5 in the “Hell on Wheels” campaign and received a Purple Heart. His name was Henry Simon Thebeau from Missouri. Could anyone tell me where I could get more information for her? Thank you so much!

She would qualify as next of kin so can request his records see:

You might be able to as well as some are now considered in the public record. County court houses sometimes have copies of the records as well. More help should be coming soon from people who really know what they are talking about in regards to this sort of research. I'm not familiar with "Hell on Wheels" as the name of a campaign by the way but it is the "name" assoceated with the 2nd Armored division.

Thanks for your reply! I guess I misspoke about the nickname for the division. I guess I’ll have her request his record. I searched the entire list for our county and found his brothers and cousins but not him. We’re certain of his receiving the Purple Heart as it’s also on his grave marker. Thanks again for your response!

Just noticed where this thread is located. It will probably get a faster response over in the info request sub forum. I'll mention it to the admins.

I'm fine with this here for now lwd, this is an appropriate place for Military Service Records & Genealogical Research. Maybe we need an info request sub-forum here also.

It just seems like the people that really know what they are doing in this regard pay more attention to the info request forum. I agree that this fits in with the forum topic. In as diverse of forum as this especially as you incorporate other defunct forums how to organize things in an optimum manner is a difficult problem. The New Post and recent post links help a lot in this regard as it ignores the structure. IMO by the way the info request support offered by the users here especially with regards to individuals is one of the things that makes this forum stand out and plays and will play a big part in continuing to attract new people. The reason I suggested that it might not be the best place is usually several of the regulars who are really good at this sort of thing would have already jumped in. Not sure if their just busy with other things or weren't monitoring this sub forum much. Among all the other tasks you have on your plate fine tuning is probably one of the less important and more difficult ones. Thanks for all the effort you've put into this forum by the way. I know I've said it before as have others but it bears repeating IMO.

Jenny, If he has a VA memorial (grave marker) the cemetery office would have a copy of his separation paper which will indicate his decorations, campaigns, and a lot of other information. The funeral director needed this to order the head marker from the VA. Another good place to find a copy is at the county Auditors Office. Most veterans had this recorded in case the original was lost. But by all means follow lwd's advice and try to get a copy of his records, and ask for a replacement set of his decorations and medals. They are provided free to your Aunt. If you find a copy of his separation paper please post it-we can help with the information. My brother was with the 2nd Armored so have quite a bit of information on that unit. (I checked the 67th Armored Regiment for his name without success--he may have been in the 66th AR which I don't have a roster to).
