SPAM invasion! run for the hills

It's a delicacy in Hawaii and Guam since WW2. I've read that cans of Spam are coveted stoking stuffers during Christmas.

As far as Spam being sent to the Rooskies, I've read that they called it "Roosevelt Sausage" as well.

I keep some at the house too. Mostly for breakfast (thin cut, fried w/eggs) or thin cut and fried Spam Sammiches. Haven't tried it in gumbo yet, but it's pretty good in pastalaya though.

 

anyone ever break the first few millimeter strip that comes to open the spam safe?
that is a dangerous procedure.

OpanaPointerand Poppy, thanks guys for the"likes" Old fools like me need some symphony in dealing with spa, the food ( well maybe it is food) and the computer kind. I was born in 1940 and spam was eaten at our table, I figured it was what was left over after the packing houses removed all the meat from a hog. Not a pork chop!! As for computers and their peripherals, I long to take a ball peen hammer and beat the hell out of mine on occasion. Any satisfaction would soon turn to more anguish as I would miss the contacts here. Poppy, I share your frustration. I wish there was a teen in my neighborhood to keep mine running. Yesterday my printer told me it was plugged into a USB3 port and was so distressed it refused to work. If was, in fact, plugged into a #2 port as it has always has been. A Windows update changed its mind! Not SPAM but irritating all the same
But the damned fool things keep us connected all over the globe, therefore, are forgiven. Can you imagine the next war when one has to remember their password to fire a 155mm and wait for an update!

When I posted this originally.It was in reference to the site being hit by numerous spam messages. In true WW2F fashion it went completely sideways.The topic devolved into an amazingly interesting discussion of the canned pork product.Which is by all means better than bi..thing about a bunch of unwanted advertising.
What fun.

 

I don't know what it is but the sure seem drawn to the Hyperwar thread, I have to clean it up almost every day, sometimes twice a day.

I knew Opana ran with a sketchy crowd, but man!

 

I blame it on the booming economy. Can't get good help these days with such low unemployment numbers.

 

As a kid we used to have fried Spam sandwiches a couple times per month. I still like it for lunch. Spam fried rice is outstanding, too. SInce it will last in the pantry for 10 years or so, I always have a can stashed away for emergencies......

In addition to it being popular in Hawaii and Guam, Spam is popular in Korea. I think there was a run of special gold tins for use as a gift.

 

Hey, this thread got me thinking..... Is there a thread or sub-forum dedicated to the food of WW II? Recipes from the trenches? Recipes used during rationing? I love to cook--despite what you may have inferred from my previous post about Spam--and it would be interesting and education to try some WW II era recipes. I'm sure some re-enactors have references, etc....
