They've moved Ft. Knox to Ft. Benning as well. All the tank stuff anyway. Ft. Benning is now the home of the infantry AND armor. Not really sure how all that is going to work out though. They left the gold up in Kentucky.
There was a fair amount of media puff about 'The Armour & Cavalry Restoration Facility' a few years back, but it seems to have gone a bit quiet. Been a fair few pictures (some from people here?) of rare things finally sitting under cover, though, and even restoration work underway. Yeah that was from our WW2F (Southeast US Division) field trip a few years back. We said that we'd go back when the Armor & Cavalry part got finished getting established, but that never happened. Us going back and the establishment thing. Jeff did have himself a one man mini-field trip when he was in town for the Mardi Gras awhile back. The Armor and Cavalry Museum will open when the Museum of the U.S. Army opens. And all those vehicles will be restored to operation. And pigs fly.
