Also 2 letters, about some requests for holding a speech. With original signature of Hehnlein.

Nice find as always. Just out of curiosity. How lethal and what was the range of the ceramic grenades? I assume they were produced because of the materials needed but how did they compare to the US?

 

I do not know. They can not be as good as our frags. The clay is thick but might fracture if it hits a rock before exploding. Rich A. in Pa.

Just picked up this huge album that belonged to a Cpl Ivan Klann. I just started going through and it appears that Cpl Klann was trained to work in offices. He was ordered overseas and spent time on Guam. There he sent home many pictures including many of B29s. It seems like she saved every piece of scrap that he had sent home. I need to break down to protect all of the items. I am just not sure on how I am going to do that since there are so many things. I have started by taking pictures of each page..

Just picked up these three items
The first is probably one of the best albums I have been able to acquire. It come from the 354th Fighter group including an original patch. Also has picture of Eisenhower, Bradley and some interesting pilots. Great content.
The second album from 652 Bomb Squadron with about 200 pictures. Another great content with close-up of B17 Artwork
Last is , 464th BG and his uniform cap and his personnel diary. Talks about his raid on Ploesti. He flew 51 missions

A uniform Jacket and Trousers for a Lt. Royal Navy (? Engineering?), also included a set of miniature medals and his wartime service medals still in their postage box, unmounted. Bars for Pacific, Germany / Europe, and North Africa.
The Jacket is worn and some minor repairs are necessary to the trousers ( a holed back pocket, they are dirty ( worn) but should they be cleaned, safe to do so?
For the moment will allow it to hang and get back into shape.
These were being sold separately on eBay and whilst it was the uniform which I was interested in I bought the medals rather than see them parted after so long.
(I have a suitable cap to go with the uniform).

 

Great great grouping. I am always amazed at the workmanship that was done during the war. I guess that's why we are having this conversation. Now as far as the cleaning question?? Personally, I have tried to stay away from getting it done. Unless you have a piece that really will benefit from getting it done them for me I say no. Then even if you want to get it done I think you need to find someone you really trust. When I get a new cloth/uniform piece I like to air out for a good couple days. Careful not to let the sun to bleach but let the "old" just get out of there. Please just understand just my opinion.
I have a AH table cloth that was "liberated" from a soldier from the 42nd Infantry division. I never got that cleaned because all the dirt and stains told a story of the soldier who shoved it in his backpack. All I did was opened it up for a couple weeks with some light weigh, and then gently folded.

Great job and hopefully you will be able to get some history. Obviously he has some stories to tell. Pictures are fantastic!

 

"Jba45ww2" Apart from a careful ironing/pressing of the Jacket and a repair to the back pocket I will leave it as it is, the only items I have ever had cleaned are cap tallies and then by a gent who knows how to do this.
I will, when this CV19 is over get the medals mounted.

 

Also, make sure to post final picture once everything has been fixed. I am sure it is going to look great.

Off to War banner is great. I guess now with all of the restrictions we all are pretty much tied down to finding things via email/mail? Any ideas how are you going to display the banner. I always like finding those types of items. Just so personnel Really great finds Rich!!!
