Run Silent, Run Deep. I just love watching the tin cans get it. Beautiful. Plus there is Don Rickles.
We Dive at Dawn used a couple of different S class subs, with the amusing effect that the external stern torpedo tube appeared and disappeared from scene to scene.
Das Boot. Run Silent, Run Deep was the first sub movie I can remember seeing, so that's close. I also have a warm spot in my heart for The Enemy Below! While it's only tangentially about subs, the movie, The McKenzie Break, starring Brian Keith is an entertaining bit of film. It is (very) loosely based on the plot by Donitz to free some captured German UBootmannen from Canadian captivity.
There’s a run for Das Boot...surely the most genuine movie in the stables, but the most entertaining? It had an unnecessarily awful ending, and in the end didn’t tell a story of its own, but more a docu-movie of the events of the sub war... I would say it wasn’t the most entertaining of the bunch by a long shot...
German culture is different than American or Commonwealth cultures and thus their war stories are different. All Quiet on the Western Front didn't have a wonderful ending either.
In Das Boot in the beginning before going to battle the crew pees both sides of the road on captain's windshield. For luck?
Looks like Das Boot has taken the lead..no fans of John Wayne in Operation Pacific???..he practically won the war.
..as I stated in another thread, he also solved the torpedo problem in O Pacific ...wow--now that I think about it, I have Destination Tokyo on DVD...I haven't watched that since I was in my teens...I got it for a birthday present and never put it on......I guess I will now hahah
