Eat, but according to you, troops don't eat, that is why they are hungry. Patrols & Recon, not much of that going on. Hygiene? The vets I have talked to all grabbed some shut-eye whenever possible. Hygiene was for the rest areas. If they brushed their teeth, they were lucky.
..you constantly nitpick over idiotic stuff--like the word ''forced march''/etc..and the funny thing is, I always prove you wrong on even your nitpick crap
.....hahahah--but that doesn't prove I'm wrong about how the ''rest time'' is not totally ''rest'' time......you are babbling and double talking again--probably means you know I am right ....hahhahahah..they are not eating a turkey dinner with all the trimmings ...
After some intense deliberation, the panel has awarded you two the Close Combat Badge for action above and beyond...congratulations.
Yes, nitpicking your confusing...Ichiki with Kawaguchi, jungle with road, a single strand of barbed wire with overwhelming fire superiority, disorganization with organization, night with day, etc. Lots to nit pick.
Well, with reading your "experiences" and recalling my uncle's talks about his time on Guadalcanal with the US Army. I can tell you were never on Guadalcanal, and your realistic realism is about as real as "Reality TV". If it is all the same to you, I will take his realism over yours.
o yes--from common sense and experience-''rest'' is not really rest: daytime heat humidity no bed/mattress-- but hard ground etc --obviously and sensibly you are not getting good sleep/rest..it still saps the energy
Oh please...I take it you never worked 3rd shift a day in your life. I did 10 years of 10pm-6am(+ living in front of a hospital w/ a lot of ambulance traffic), and 3 years of 11pm-7:30am. And now, soldiers are only capable of fighting unless they have gotten a good night's sleep, in a nice comfortable bed, in a room that is air-conditioned. And people wonder why the Japanese thought western troops were "soft" and incapable of fighting in the Pacific.
The ignore function also works well in these cases. It's remarkable how quickly it eliminates the bull$&it content in threads. I highly recommend it.
That is true. However, ignoring and not showing the BS for what it is, means that uneducated folk will read the BS and believe it. It turns my stomach to think that one person would take away from this thread that the Japanese were defeated at the Tenaru because they were tired because they did not sleep in comfy beds, or by a single strand of barbed wire, or it was dark, or etc.
Battle fitness is a thing...transport was instigated to infantry not just to get them around quickly, it was also so that they could fight once arrived, instead of being stuffed (exhausted) - A tired army is a thing - sleep deprivation is a thing - not only physical but mental fitness is impacted. These things can build up and make an impact on decision making and response times. Still in this case, I lean on Takao's line of thinking. Especially if both sides had much the same obstacles to overcome.
If there are any survivors in a banzai charge???..feel free to chime in...my Dad's best friend was with the 2nd Marines in the Pacific..think I'll give old Bob a call.
pfft. please dont compare ur lame 3 shifts to what the real men had to endure. they never had the ability to constantly post to a ww2 website. visiting websites while working is a fireable offense in my book.
Sleeping in your own bed in a house, IS different form sleeping in a dug out hole, in the elements with the enemy near by who may decide to slit your throat as you sleep... Working 3rd shift is not lame...but not comparable to "sleeping in the Pacific"..."Bloody mozzies!" I'm glad Poppy isn't my boss...i'd be fired by now.
