I've been seeing a lot of tabletop gaming models on the net lately and i was wondering if any of you can share your experiences with me. I am an absolute stranger to this tabletop thing but the modelling side of it seems really interesting. I really want to get into it and paint a few models but as i stated before i am a total newbie here so can anyone recommend me some good ones with tanks? Only one i can right now with ease seems to be the zvezda one. 192.168.0.1
What scale are you planning on playing? 1/72, 1/86(HO gauge), 1/160(N gauge), 1/285? I used 1/285 GHQ MicroArmor because the small scale was all but required for modern tank warfare.
In my area 20-30 years ago, you could not find ship minis. You wanted miniatures, it was tank games, Battle Tech, or D&D. From what I remember ASL had some wonky conversion charts.
For minis though my real interest was Battle Tech. Still have many of those stashed in a closet. My old group often debated about renting out the local minigolf place for a day, and having one large massive battle...Never did happen. Course it helps to have a friend who owns the local game shop, so you can get figs at cost.
"Jutland" didn't come with a board, we played it on the floor in an empty room. But there was one alternative for ships, "waterline" models.
I had Jutland also, the pieces were die cut cardboard with ship diagrams/pictures printed on them. Dogs and vacuum cleaners were the bane of that game.
I used to play Jutland on a ping pong table, which was in two pieces, so we could position the second table if the fleets threatened to run off the first.
Never played Jutland. The two naval games I played were Harpoon and Command at Sea. Current editions are found here: THE ADMIRALTY TRILOGY
This was back in 1969. We played it when training allowed. It got to the point where they were seeing who would have the next meltdown. I was already crazy so I didn't get weeded out. But the other guys who made it to the end were batshit.
First table top game I had was the classic American Heritage Dogfight by Milton Bradley I got for Christmas..this was around '63 or so. The little American plastic planes were green and the Germans were red..sorta gave a feeling of aerial dogfighting during WWI as you drew a card and moved around the board..you can still find copies of the game online..no idea what happened to mine.
ha ha...yep. always lost RISK bits after a marathon. stepping on them usually found them. hurts like leggo. the wooden blocks werent as bad as the plastic on the feet.
