Great Storm

living up north, there was always a lot of epic weather.
down south, it is fairly stable. miss the electricity of severe weather.
...just had an epic storm roll through here.
suntanning/imbibing/surfing on deck, and an ominous cloud formed.
it was awesome.
verticle heavy raine, hail that filled the parking lot. lightning and thunder that shook the building.
glorious.
and now...sunshine.

 

..I need a change of seasons......variety, so it's not boring

 

A “heat wave” here. To be that way for about another week. 95° today, 98° tomorrow. The grandson is off to West Virginia for a baseball tournament, with his father. I said to drink a lot of water and Gatorade. Keep an eye on that umpire behind the plate so he doesn’t pass out.

Vertical heavy rain...that is always a good sign.

was working on a delivery truck when a devastating tornado hit Edmonton back in late 80's.
the atmosphere/heightened awareness it drove me to has been something ill always remember.

 

If you want variety, come to Wyoming. I've seen it snow every month of the year. I vividly remember a 15-minute blizzard on July 3!

 

Or you could try a cyclone...or just a tropical storm...the power build up is something to see...rain so big and hard it stings when it hits you...like a bucket being emptied...you can only see about
3m ahead of you...fortunately we have the best drainage system in the world!

 

wouldnt mind a tropical storm in a solid bunker.
being helpless on the sea during a storm is a top 10 fear...watching some of those fisherman episodes...
odds of this prairie oyster ever dying on the ocean are slim. but still...worries me.
thing about tornadoes- they can strike in a relative instant. nobody gets weeks/days to prepare.

- calgary had a gigantic hailstorm recently. think it was 4th largest insurance claim in our history.
all those rows of lousy new housing looked like a battle zone.
the plastic cladding gets cold, hail hits and makes bullet holes. hundreds of thousands of bullet holes.
if people clad their homes in crappy materials, why do the rest of us have to pay for it...the car still drives, just looks like a golf ball now. ..my first car was a rust bucket.

 

My house is solid concrete inside and out...tiled floor. Huge bolts holding the roof on...which is metal.

32 degrees...it was freezing this morning (dry season) it got down to 18.8C! (65.8F) As soon as the sun comes up, that disappears...I smoke a pipe. (Bloody hippy joints...)
I often think about a nuke hitting Darwin and if I would survive 30km down the track with a couple of decent hills between me and Darwin...im sure the house would survive, but I still think about being burnt through a window, or going blind...or the fall-out (but one would get a little head start before that began to fall...)

Hey I think Canada does cold as well as Darwin does heat...each to his own. There are plenty of southerners (anyone outside the Territory) who say they can't handle Darwin's heat...its one thing that keeps them from moving here and the locals love it...we don't want to become "big"...Indeed one thing that makes Darwin awesome is that so much of the real world is still nearby, not concreted over...Australia is laid back...and the NT makes them look busy and ernest. The NT works on NT time...which is "it gets done when it gets done" - "I'll be there when I get there"
