Username: A-58 Postmark: 29 September 2020 Received: 26 October 2020 From: White Sands, New Mexico, USA As A-58's cross country motorcycle tour continues, we get our eighth consecutive postcard from him. Bobby reports in from the famous White Sands National Park, which is just about 50 miles south of the Trinity Site. About 20 years ago I visited White Sands on a very sunny day in the in the middle of summer. It was obviously incredibly hot, but most impactful was the blinding brightness of the sand. I took a tiny sample of the sand with me, which I keep in small jar. When people see it they usually mistake it for a salt shaker. This card, and a couple others from A-58's journey were delivered late due to the postal code typo. Life just ain't fair ! I had planned on taking a cross-country bike trip after graduation from high school. A buddy and I were all set, he on a Kawasucky and I was planning on trading in my old Honda for a Brand new Suzuki GT 550. Three months - Peoria Illinois to Seattle , zigzaging from the Mexican border to Canada. Sumbit*h went and enlisted in Seminary school ! Then I ended up being call for an interview at the nearby major manufacturer for an "employment opportunity". Through your eyes, I thank ya A-58
Haha! Kawasucky...that's funny...we call them Kwakas in Australia. I would have thought the great American cruiser aka Harley or Indian would have been the go for an American road trip. I like the design of those shelters. Also, I have a vial of sand from the Gallipoli beach at home.
Really liked the Sportster but the tagline way back then was you needed someone following you. With a trailer!
