A Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet attacking a B-17, or is it.... Takao, you must wait six (6) hours or at least after there are six (6) posts from other Rogues before jumping in and ruining it for all.
The me 163 only flew upwards to reach its top level and then it had no more fuel. The attacks were made by going down and that's it. In the photo the silhouette looks to me like a Me 163 but I could be wrong. But from reading about the plane I would not expect attacks during going upwards. Maybe a short burst with guns but the idea was to get high and attack during the descending phase. Btw, are those German AA clouds? Attacking planes and AA shots should not happen. Also the lonely fortress looks odd. I would expect several as they protected each other.
I don’t know the B17’s that well, but were they using the the models with no forward turrets under the nose this late in the war when the jets were around?
It’s a pic of what may or may not be of a ME-163 Komet attacking what may be a B-17E. Or maybe a B-17F. Or not.
The only maybe problem with this pic that I can see is the upward trajectory...however, the Komet needed to get above the bombers before cruising downward on a single attack...Maybe this was it's upward phase "see you in a minute Ms 17"...
oh, come on spill the beans, but only because I'm only vaguely aware that there was a war in Europe. Not to mention the B-17 looks like a painting, not a photo . . . copy of a copy of a copy of a copy times 100 effect, maybe, but there's some odd proportions, at least to my old eyes.
