Condolences? The average US marriage nowadays lasts just over 8 years. Kudos! for being well above the average.
It's simple actually. Always remember to say "yes dear" to whatever she says. Usually I didn't hear what she said anyway. And it is easier the older I get : hearing is going. At least that's what I've been telling her the last few years. But most importantly when they ask for your opinion tread lightly. That's a dead giveaway it's a trap.
Naw, she's got her hobbies/interests and I got mine which is another plus. We do have a shared sense of humor which helps. Ah darn it, I gotta go. Those T-bones aren't going to cook themselves. Another tip: Tell em' you'll cook supper. You'll look like the considerate husband. It doesn't have anything to do with the fact that after nearly five decades "I like my steaks medium rare" somehow is heard as I'll take mine "Well Done". At least she said " Yes Dear". Uh oh.

It's all in the context. According to Takao's statistics I'm actually in the minority and who's to say what is or isn't the norm? If less than eight years accounts for the majority of years married then that would be the normal state wouldn't it? So in that case I'm the one who is well below average. And it's too late to try and better my score.
It fits with studies that seem to revolve around a 7 seven year cycle in humans...one of the longest studies ever done is still underway...anyone heard of the seven up series? Google it if you haven’t...it starts back in the 60s where a psychologist begins the study with the premis “give me a seven year old an I will show you the adult”...he interviews a group of children in England from the lower, middle and upper classes, and asks them all the same set of questions... Every seven years he comes back to the same people and asks them the same questions with supplemental questions as they arise. So you see them at 7,14, 21 and so on...the last I saw I think was them at 63...following them through life...some are successful, some struggle...well worth a binge on that if you have missed it... There are consolidations at age 7 for a child...the age the child moves from childhood to begining to learn to be an adult...traditionally the age where the father steps in and takes a greater role of teacher...the child begins to see the outer world, beyond themselves... Then of course there is the seven year itch...perhaps a sign that relationships are meant to last only seven years, the child only needs the parental unit until the age of seven... And so on...
