"Smoke billows up from the Kowloon Docks and railroad yards after a surprise bombing attack on Hong Kong harbor by the U.S. Army 14th Air Force October 16, 1944. A Japanese fighter plane (left center) turns in a climb to attack the bombers. Between the Royal Navy yard, left, enemy vessels spout flames, and just outside the boat basin, foreground, another ship has been hit."

    Star Ferry a-shitin' and a-gettin'.

9 out of 10 American GIs never saw the enemy. They kept the beans, bullets, and black oil coming for the line doggies.

"U.S. invasion forces establish a beachhead on Okinawa island, about 350 miles from the Japanese mainland, on April 13. 1945. Pouring out war supplies and military equipment, the landing crafts fill the sea to the horizon, in the distance, battleships of the U.S. fleet."

This has got to be one of the most iconic pictures I've ever seen of WW2. And I'm pretty sure I've seen several thousand.

It’s easy to get caught up in the foreground...the impact really happens when you look at the background...

Exactly CAC . When you take in the entire scene the logistics of what you see is phenomenal.

Well I made it to 2021 ! On the East coast anyway, it's still 2020 here in the Midwest!

So, was that a Win/Win bet for the Boss Lady, or would she have rather had the money? ;)

(I, for one, am glad she lost.)

So, in 2021 the Vogons will destroy the Earth to make way for a hyperspace bypass? So long and thanks for all the fish.

    From the article:
"This small clump of material is part of a much larger cloud complex called the Carina Nebula, and under normal circumstances would not be given a nickname of its own. But its distinctive shape has led scientists to nickname it the Defiant Finger.

And that's exactly what it looks like - the age-old obscene gesture of "go do ghastly things to yourself", and "go away, but in much ruder words"."

Ice Hockey: 2021 World Junior championship quarter final Finland-Sweden. We were losing 2-0 to Sweden and then we came back and scored the winning goal 3-2 just 30 seconds before the end. Our beloved "enemy" Sweden usually does this to us. Our turn....

    Sorry guys....

Bet you never guessed. My father was 0 38 cal Finnish champion and my mother 0.22 cal Finnish champion. I shot both guns between ages 12-17 years several days a week but was not good enough so concentrated on other things.

Tasmanian artist Adam Taylor bringing the past back to life with colourised photos

'They had the same hopes and dreams': Bringing the past back to life, with colour

My family on both sides are all from Tasmania and eventually settled in Hobart (The capital of Tasmania) - I spent four years living there and fell in love with the place...
I really liked the photo of Salamanca...many buildings built by convicts are pretty much all still there...and Salamanca markets are world famous today...you go to Hobart, you HAVE to go to Salamanca markets...
