That would be quite an undertaking! Have you ever seen the upper four-fifths of Quebec and Newfoundland? I have. No roads plus rivers and lakes everywhere!

i ‘devised’ a similar plan for submarines designed to fire smaller V2 missiles at coastal America...Both air and Sea attack have the same limitations. IMO two requisites are apparent.
    1. Only done for psychological reasons.
    2. The whole thing can only last 1 to 3 months.
There are lots of arguements against such a venture. but remember the Doolittle raid? There were fuel issues and could quite possibly be a suicide mission...and was done purely for psychological reasons. And was done anyway.

I'm not giving North American air defence much odds if the Germans had a cross-ocean nuclear strike capability. From the simple principle that the defender has to be in top readiness 24/7, going over all possible avenues and modes of attack. The attacker, meanwhile, has to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for only a few minutes to score a major blow.

And our snoozing German pilot gets his butt blown out of the sky as he crosses UK or Iceland airspace...Gets his butt blown out of the sky by an early warning carrier group...Night, vertigo, CFIT...After flying for hours on end, our dozing German pilot never saw the patrolling Mustang that killed him. Not to mention any one of hundreds of mechanical failures.

I think that if Germany somehow made it to the US, within a week the Dresden bombing would pale in comparison to what would come.

The defender is a lot likelier to doze off given the situation i mentioned. All sorts of murphy situations, including dumb luck, usually conspire against the defender. If the attacker bums out, he could just try again. Look at your history.

Hitler attacked = didn't turn out well for him. Japan attacked = ditto.

Sometimes "What if we did this" becomes "Why Did We Do This".

Yamamoto knew he had 6-12 months to attack after which the tables would turn. The German generals considered Barbarossa the stupid thing to do. They knew the vastness from WW1 period.
If Hitler had fought in the Ostfront WW1 would he have thought of Barbarossa...

Unfortunately dictators do not think why? Hitler wanted only vengeance. That is why V1-v3 were created.

That was the concept behind SAC. Off in the ground in five minutes. And rotating crews would divide the load, of course.

Yet, knowing the odds were against them, they went all in anyway...Confident in their German superiority.

Hitler knew what happened on the Ostfront in WW1, the Russian government collapsed, and the new one sued for peace. He fully expected this to happen again.

Not to mention that in WWI the majority of German forces were fighting in the West the whole time. And they were maintaining a much larger navy than they had any use for.

We can't forget that the Canadians would have fought on, so their territory would have been defended for the length of any flight path on the Great Circle routes.

Just my view of that I have read. Hitler was afraid of the Red Army until the Winter War. After that he thought it was just a kick of the door in and the House collapsed. WW1 did not matter to him, the Red Army had killed its best men and the wehrmcht was at its best. The German Prussian generals knew the massiveness of the front and were against it but Hitler demanded the operation.

Do not forget it was the Germans who delivered Lenin By train through Europe to create the revolution in ca 1917.

Yep, Lenin returned, but only after the February Revolution that forced the Tzar to abdicate...and upon his return, he was forced to flee, from Russia, for his life twice...Both times...To Finland.

    Murphy does not take sides.

Dumb luck is also a 2-way street.

Every thing you mentioned goes both ways.

Militarily I would have preferred the U-boats shooting V1's to NY but thats my thought of the Major propaganda effort. Happy it never took place.
