The long voyage home 1940

I guess this was to illustrate the problems faced by the merchant Marines in the war. They certainly lost a lot of shipping and men. Showing that some ships hired shainghai gangs to recruit men even at triple wages. John Wayne was pretty young looking then it was a John Ford picture. Funny I recognized a number of actors that he used in many of his later pictures. John Wayne also helped many of those actors get rolls in other pictures he stared in. When US and other allied shipyards began to flood the seas with destroyers and escorts and asw took new bounds in technology and aircraft the uboats were the hunted being sunk as to make it risky to even pop up their periscope. Anyway John Wayne is almost shainghaied and the crew saves him but the guy who is like the lead crewman gets clubbed and doesn't make it off the Amindra a day or two later the papers say the Amindra sunk all killed.
