Lol my nephew moved to Melbourne to join his girlfriend and marry her. He's a mix of Japanese, Filipino and Caucasian. His gf is Indian both her parents are from India don't know when the immigrated to Australia but they all had an Aussie accent. Wonder what my nephew will sound like in a few years. Anyway I thought she sounded cute. I think it's funny I was reading about a cake they say you have to try while in Australia can't remember what it was but New Zealand claims they originated it and Australia says they did. I was thinking since both have there origins to the Brits maybe the Brits did it. Just wondering. Like lots of foods claimed to be Hawaiian have there roots from the Japanese or Chinese. Like manapua love it a steam rice bun filled with minced bbq porch charsui, plain steamed or uttered topped and browned I the oven great with wasabi and soy sauce. One thing the Hawaiians love to do is make good food and eat it. Lots of plump Hawaiians and huge Samoans even the kids must be born big right off. Should think if they can get enough of those Samoan boys in college Hawaiian college football team should be tough.

I don't think they were born big...just their diets full of saturated fats and sugar...i remember the King of (Samoa?) went on a diet and urged his people to live healthier lives...

The cake you refer to is called Pavlova

"Helen Leach, in her role as a culinary anthropologist at the University of Otago, states that the first recipe from New Zealand was a recipe for 'pavlova cake' in 1929. It has also been claimed that Bert Sachse created the dish at the Esplanade Hotel in Perth, Western Australia in 1935."

"The dessert was named after the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova, who was a megastar when she toured both countries in the 1920s."

We have it all year round but is a favourite for Christmas...lots of yummy fruit!

Wow looks great making me hungry for cake or pastry. I would love a blue berry pie right now. Or mixed berries. Anyway I guess that should settle the argument. I read something about Australians take their pastries seriously and coffee. I think Australia is the only country where they have mccoffee where they serve only coffee and pastries. Saw it on YouTube had a huge selection of pastries and cakes looks yummy but seems like it would be tough with just coffee and pastries. Most coffee and pastries shops here are out of business because the super market bakeries. some tried to add sandwiches to create more business but there's so many sandwich shops. Like Arby's was a beef sandwich shop then they added turkey and chicken and not sure what else. But I guess it's helped their still around. We use to like one near us they would screw up our order like every other time. Got to where we would double check the order every time to try not to have to drive back. Hope you and yours are well and doing fine. Anything new hobby wise or any new hobbies. Itching to build something got out some of my wings kit collection #12 zero b5n2 and Val and dml pocket army. Can't decide so many to choose but many out of reach

Pastries yes...we are the kings of meat pies...other places have them but Australia makes it an art. The pie competition every year gets many entrants from bakeries all over Australia, the trophy is prized...
We sell them now in America, if you can find them. Will Smith recently tried one...realising the pie must be hot.

Coffee...hmm...would you believe we regularly win the WORLD champion barista competition held in Italy? Starbucks was laughed at and they went out of business super quick in Australia...it's true to say we are coffee snobs. Melbourne Australia is the coffee capital of the world. (But we don't buy beans that are sourced by "slave" or underpaid suppliers). - The ONLY drink i consume is Iced Coffee...sells more than Coke in Darwin.

McDonalds is called "Maccas" in Australia - Yes we shorten everything.

    Maccas coffee

We have different words for our different coffees...never fails to confuse Americans and Canadians.

Lol that right I remember that Maccas well I hope I get to go visit my nephew and maybe make it by your way, I'll have to buy you a cup of coffee. I hope my nephew can find me the ozmod kits I asked him to look for. How funny noticed the bird deterrents got them there too. Damn want a mocha during the summers here after work on my long commutes id get McDonald's iced coffee to cool down and refresh me on the long drive back getting a mcchicken or mcdouble since they were just s buck then and the coffee was 2.75 lot cheaper than star bucks and really good, if I was really tired I'd get a mocha the sugar helped perk me up. Yeah coffee what would people do without it. Drank a lot of it during my electrical service days drove s lot of miles my service truck got 300 miles per tank so some days I had to fill up twice.

    Much ado about nothing.

I would think that escalating tensions between the Ukraine & Russia is a wee bit more important than Ukrainian Army's female footwear.

Perhaps, I am just being old fashioned.

Just a month ago the Russians had military rehearsals in the Crimea and Eastern Ukraine area. Putin said they do what they do and when they will. Anyway, a couple of days later the rehearsals were stopped and the Russian troops vanished. Wonder if someone said something to Putin....like from the US?? Just a guess....

Lol yeah probably like stop what your doing or no more aid from us and pay us back the millions we lent you. I was surprised to learn we gave Russia millions of dollars. I do understand the logic. With Russia intact the had safe guards on their nuclear arsenal if they fell those weapons could end up in Pakistan the Middle East. We gave them millions e dry year for a number of years plus humanitarian aid and I think we still give them aid food medical supplies but. O more money or at least I hope we don't.

Lol ok really what's dead horse sauce is it hot n spicey? Isn't Australia famous for its angus beef, now Herefords From herefordshire and angus from Scotland the scotties were everywhere and brought angus with them. There like all over Canada USA, South America, Australia, Japan but only for cross breeding. The Japanese are still into it has to be Japanese Waygu wa means Japanese or Japanese style ygu means cattle. I mentioned before the Japanese saw no use for cattle raised for meat they wanted work animals and the early cattle were plain oxens for farm work. When western countries introduced beef cattle the Japanese again saw it as wasteful to raise animal that could not work on the farms and so began to crossbreed as a tradition Waygu has to be about 20 percent oxen to be called Japanese Waygu. Kind of traditional like I don't think many Longhorns are left not near pure breed but mostly Hereford or one of many other breeds including red and black angus. Most cattle around the world are cross breeds these days.
