Howdy folks, I am painting the USS New Mexico in July of 1943, at the “Battle of Pips”, right before the Kiska invasion. I cannot find any photos of her during the Aleutian campaign, and was wondering how she was painted. I found a little information, but not specific to around this date. I believe I came to the conclusion she was the dark gray color, and did not have her dazzle paint scheme she had in 1944-45. However, I am second guessing myself. would anyone know of any sources to find this information out? Thanks for your help as always friends !
She was in Measure 21(overall #5-N Navy Blue on vertical surfaces, and #20B Deck Blue on horizontal surfaces). Photographic references from November 28, 1942 thru December 7, 1943 can be found in... "Warship Pictorial #18: USS New Mexico BB-40" by Classic Warships Publishing.
Well, looks like I have some re-painting to do…. Could have been worse though. Thank you Takao, you are always a big help!
Darren, please post a picture of the final result. Your work is amazing and I'd love to have a print hanging in my den.
