Playing World War II with 6mm miniatures

Hi everyone! Have you ever played World War II with miniatures (any scale)? I have played only twice and it was a few years ago when a friend introduced me to Flames of War (15mm).

In the last two months, I have bought and began painting 6mm german and russian armies. The painting is not completely done yet but I want to start building some terrain. I have bought two rulebooks (Flames of War 4th edition and WWII MicroSquad Game from GHQ). I can't wait to start playing.

I have still the plastic miniature figures I bought in the 70's. I had all possible countries. Also some included mortars and machine guns. The really small ones I have some 200, and the bigger ones some 400. There were no bunkers etc available but I bought Plastic ancient castles and built matchbox planes and tanks.

 

Had complete armies of the old Airfix HO/00 figures back in the '70s. Never bothered painting them, was too busy losing them in home-made trenches out in the garden.
In fact, the garden of my folks' old house is probably still littered with figures and bits of destroyed aircraft/tanks.

 

Looks very good.

Played Avalon Hill's MBT with GHQ's micro armor. It was really fun, but hard getting other players. Eventually moved on to Battletech & Ral Partha mechs.

 

After looking for a while I found my miniature plastic figures from I guess French warriors from bc to Roman soldiers and both German and Allied aeroplane repiar crews from ww2. I put them together for better view of what is left. Also the old jar I kept them in...funny but true....Later on the bigger soldiers.when I find them.

 

Classic Airfix! Man after me own heart.
Loved the Romans/Ancient Britons sets; had the Roman fort as well. Remember reading an article in an old Airfix Magazine about a project to convert the fort into a model of Hadrian's Wall. Always wanted to do the same with the Sheriff of Nottingham's castle, or at least convert it into something more realistic, but never got around to it.
In the early '80s I got completely anal and acquired enough WW1 British/German Airfix figures to make a brigade of each (roughly 1800 each). Had 'em all divided into platoons, companies and battalions by appropriate colours painted on the bases. Never got around to artillery, for some reason.

 

Mainly ESCI/Ertl 1/72 figures for my wargames, as they were easily found here in the states. Did have some airfix, but they were much harder to find.

Hi everyone. I want to use real soil as a substrate for my World War II miniature wargaming tiles. I have just been near a farm and took a few samples of agricultural soil. I have break and put a part of it in my oven for one hour and a half at 170 Farenheit.

Here is a part of what I got.



I am following the advice of a guy who does awesome and very realistic World War II terrain. He told me to go search for soil on a farm, to break it down, dry it, break it down again until it becomes likes a powder. That's what I want to do.

Have you tried any of those two techniques (real soil and tile grout)?

 

Remember trying to make a WW1 scene from Pollyfilla a long time ago, wasn't very successful.

 

Finally, I have bought polyfilla, a sieve and something to crush clay into dust. It will be a long work.

For me, I like when a wargaming terrain looks realistic. I have played only two games in the past but I must say that building terrain is also a lot of fun.

 

I was too lazy to make the terrain outdoors.

I had a plastic castle, loads of soldiers, and various matchbox kits and just imagined the scenery. I was some 8-12 years then. But I still have all of it in my attic. I even had a Catalina taking part in land battles....

 

After a few hours of painting the halftracks and their numerous soldiers, the job is finally done. The photo is not very clear but …



And I have almost finished painting my first Sturmtiger. I used the color saddle brown like it was indicated in a book but I don't like the result. It's too red (almost pink) for me. What do you think?

 

Neat. How do you store them. Small parts cabinet?

 

I use little boxes with compartments.

 

I used something like this, but not as deep. Very good for travel to and from gaming friends houses & game stores. Not so much for display, although, it kept the dust off.

They're 6mm?! Nice work.

 

I have now painted my four Sturmtiger and, for the first time, I have been able to add tiny decals. The vehicules appear glossy but that’s because I have just added a layer of matt varnish and it’s not dry yet.

 

Excellent detailed work, almost unbelievable! Congrats! You have not used your time in vain. Just someone jealous speaking.

 

What kind of eyesight do you have?!
