It is weird but holding the vinyl record cover during listening to the music is an experience you don´t get with cd´s etc. No wonder the vinyls are making a come back.

The art of the album cover

A new exhibition at The Photographers' Gallery in London celebrates the art of the album cover, and includes records by music legends such as Diana Ross, Miles Davis, and The Rolling Stones.

The exhibition includes more than 200 covers, and focuses on highlighting the role photography plays in defining artists and bands.

    CAC,
I've come to the conclusion that kangaroos are narcissistic bullies !

    Kai,
I sure wish I still had my albums from the late 60's, early 70's. Three Dog Night, Credence Clearwater Revival, Black Sabbath, Moody Blues among a few others.

The record-breaking dive under the Arctic ice

The record-breaking dive under the Arctic ice

In 1958, a US submarine became the first vessel to reach the North Pole – by travelling under the ice. Its mission unlocked a whole new world for scientists to explore.

Yeah kick arse carnivors! And people say Australia is dangerous...We don't have bears and Cougars wanting to come into the bloody tent! You can't out run a bear...And climbing a tree is pointless! Shooting them makes them angry...Australia is safer.
The Boreal forest line runs right around the northern hemisphere - With coniferous plant life...I call it the Pine band. Not surprisingly with the same environment comes the same animals...

Watched this thing on bears many learn how to work the door release. People stupidly leave food and snack items in the cars so the bears learn to raid cars for food. A bear openned the front and back doof on a sedan. then opens the door on their truck climbs in and runs off with a bag, now that bear has a place for a food stop

Found a Finnish movie on Tubi the winter war, kinda sad two friends in the reserves go to the front and they join their unit that fights battle after battle slowly losing men against 20 to 30 to one odds repelling wave after wave get pushed back then counter attacking and pushing the soviets back. In the end one man from the original group of friends survives to the peace day a few go nuts. It was pretty good the effects and a number of Soviet light tanks used in the movie. A rather sad movie, the Soviet forces never really seem to fight too hard and run rather easily when the enemy counters in force. The Finn's have a time with their bolts on their rifles the rifles looked really old and jammed a lot. They knock out enemy tanks with mostly artillery and Molotovcoctails men running up and throwing them into the airintakes. These guys hold their ground just slaughtering many times their number just to have wave after after wave of fresh soviets troops and more tanks in this movie the Finn's have little to no antitank guns. It's all in Finnish with English subs.

Kill the infantry protecting tanks and then kill the tanks that cannot see the panzerknackers. Back in 1939 there was no t-34's so lighter at guns ( 40 mm ) worked well. And when inside a tank Finns poured gasoline in and the crew went berserk.

The revealing junk of abandoned Soviet nuclear bases

From toys to toothpaste, the forgotten possessions left behind on former nuclear weapons bases in Poland reveal fascinating insights about the Soviet officers and families who once lived there.

At a Soviet military base deep in the Polish forest, miles from the nearest village, an officer's family was whiling away another Saturday morning. The children brushed their teeth hurriedly after breakfast, then rushed outside to play soldiers with plastic pistols. Their father laid out his uniform, the hammer and sickle button sparkling, while their mother sat down for a game of chess.

"Commanding officers knew very well that, for their psychological health, it is very important to create an illusion of everyday peaceful life," says Grzegorz Kiarszys, an archaeologist at Szczecin University who has studied the ruins and rubbish piles at three long-abandoned Soviet nuclear weapons bases in north-western Poland.

Local people in western Poland were aware that the Soviet military operated numerous facilities in their part of the country during the Cold War, but it was only after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 that Poles learned how some of these bases were used to store nuclear weapons.

"For many years we have been told that there are no nuclear weapons in the territory of Poland," says Kiarszys. These hidden bases harboured an awesome destructive power that could have been deployed during a war in Europe. "The idea itself was crazy," says Kiarszys. "But that's how the Soviet generals believed war in Europe would go."
