Yes. But mainly in the same areas they can mitigate with a satellite. When you know a satellite is going to be overhead at a certain time(s) each day you make sure nothing of interest is out or in the area at that time. We don't know the totality of what types and capabilities of sensors were onboard. They will quite likely locate much of the debris and will probably be able to reconstruct what was there. As an intel guy I talked to today about it said, "I'm sure the water where they down it will be crawling with Zodiacs and rhib's and they'll have divers everywhere."
I heard an Air Force officer on a podcast remark that they (the Chinese) like to gather everything they can and then sift it to see if anything of use pops up. The DoD has a bunch of these balloons deployed over the US gathering information on us and have since 2019 when they got a federal court to sign off on the plan. The initial batch was 25 and they've kept a number up continually since then. They can gather a wide range of photographic, x-ray and electromagnetic data.
China is pissed off that we shot it down anyway, even though they got their info. "China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying, “China will resolutely uphold the relevant company’s legitimate rights and interests, and at the same time reserving the right to take further actions in response,” per AP News.

My reply to the intel guy I was talking to today, "Joe Biden wanted to shoot it down but he called Hunter and said, "Hunter we've gotta give back some of that Chinese money. I'm going to have to shoot down that Chinese satellite now that somebody has noticed it. Hunter, "can't do it dad, I've already blown mine on hookers and cocaine."

Not sure you do, I'm no fan of the big orange cry baby either. Corrupt is corrupt, gotta call them as you see them.
My disdain for corrupt politicians aside, the military analysis is non-partisan.

    I'm still not following.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in a statement Saturday afternoon that President Biden had given his authorization on Wednesday "to take down the surveillance balloon as soon as the mission could be accomplished without undue risk to American lives under the balloon's path."

Officials had initially advised against shooting down the balloon as it crossed over the nation's midsection because falling debris could cause risk to people on the ground. However, on Saturday morning, Mr. Biden told reporters that "we're gonna take care of" the balloon.

Suspected Chinese spy balloon shot down off South Carolina coast

Biden gave the order, DOD said hold on.
I also have talked to someone who was a Civilian contractor for satellite orbital dynamics ( possibly working with NORAD?), who incidentally would never discuss their work. The Chinese were testing us - the USA, and we followed the slowly moving 'weather balloon' for days "Before" it hit the Aleutians. Our own intelligence gained some Intel. Not to mention the acquisition of Chinese technology. such as it is. Just like the numerous USA combined operations with other countries, it's not the joint cooperation it's watching the other sides observation.

    To get back on topic;
I had the fortunate opportunity to not only see, but touch this . Probably shouldn't but the moment overwhelmed me! The wing was Right There and I couldn't help myself !
P51 once owned by Jimmy Stewart and sold to Jackie Cochran for $1.00, only to be bought back by Jimmy for $10.00.

    Remember Sky Lab?
On July 11, 1979, Skylab made a spectacular return to earth, breaking up in the atmosphere and showering burning debris over the Indian Ocean and Australia.

Didn't hit anybody...But there are few people in the middle of Australia...

Yeah but how else do you explain ,for public consumption, that we've rendered it pretty much useless and are watching to seeing what it's up to! There are far better ways of 'looking', listening and infiltrating.
Maybe china thought, we've done this many times before let's see what happens?

I pointed that out to my girlfriend while we were watching the news about the balloon, and she had a thought - maybe the government didn't want private citizens grabbing bits of the wreckage, as happened in the case of Columbia.

The difference between the office space of the Jug and the Mustang. There's a few 'Newer' avionics visible to meet FAA regs.

    AUKUS news...
A group that could shape the future or a bit of a dud...Too early to tell. India and Japan are thinking of Joining...India can be a little unpredictable and sell serving (which it should be)...It has a complicated relationship with China...It has nuclear weapons. India has a whopping population...So:

Indian Army 1,237,117 Ministry of Defence
Indian Navy 67,228 Ministry of Defence
Indian Air Force 139,576 Ministry of Defence
    Indian Coast Guard 11,000

I don't know about you but i want India firmly on the side of the allies!
A for AUKUS and A for Australia - As usual Australia has been made the head of the spear...Which is where i think the US and UK want us... :( It is what it is...

Australia has always needed a Defence boost anyway, this is perhaps the only thing that gets dollars out of Australian politician's pockets. Australia, the US and UK are considering creating a whole new submarine for all three of us to use...I hope so. Technology races so fast these days that new platforms are a good idea (rather than just trying to upgrade old platforms.

    So this comes in today...
US Congress suggests sending B-21 stealth bombers to Australia under AUKUS partnership - ABC News

I wouldn't be too concerned. The USA Air Force alone has over half a million personnel + over 5,000 available aircraft.
The Navy can possibly leave a few targets for them. Just under a half mil' personnel and a little over half the air force strength in aircraft. Not including those sneaky Sub's.
Then we've got the US Army - over a million soldiers ready and willing.
Naw it's all bluster and smoke. Don't worry Mate, we've got each others back.
