I wonder how much of the tech they already have.

I think they know a lot, but understand little...The dumbarsery of Putin/Russia doesn't surprise me...They have always been simple peasants, trying to play world politics with a muck rake in one hand. China surprises me a little...They are finding out if you sleep with dogs, you wake up with fleas. Their talks of a peace plan is evidence of a lowering of China's tolerance of Russia's "war". Of course without complete withdrawal, there will be no peace. The Ukaranian amabssador to Australia was asked why they dont just cede the ground taken by Putin and end the war...He replied "would you give up Queensland just to end the war?" Silence was his answer.

CAC, as to autonomous ships being the wave of the future, I'm in perfect agreement.

One thing AI doesn't do well is solve issues that haven't been programmed into their algorithms. I can see where an automated piloting system might help overcome the T-EPF's instability problems, just like those systems make stealth aircraft that are inherently unstable, flyable. There are problems when there are no humans to handle damage control on a ship with a weak structure, or the out-of-the-box workarounds human personnel devise to perform an operation or task when the systems, weapons or tech don't work as advertised or operate to design specs.
I personally think the T-EPF platform is one of those pork-barrel projects that don't operate as intended, but politicians lack the will to kill the program. They've been plagued from the start; Spearhead T-EPF/JHSV-1 was supposed to be delivered to the US Navy in 2011. She was actually delivered on 05 Dec 2012, late and 31 million dollars overbudget. Rough seas wrecked her bow in 2015 and she had to undergo 1/2 million in repairs and the rest of the class in service were strengthened, with those building having the improvements incorporated to their build. USNS Spearhead was moved to inactive status in 2020 and moored with the reserve fleet after only eight years' service! It's a ship class that can't properly fulfill its designed mission and hasn't proven capable of other missions they've envisioned for them. T-EPF-13 may be working as a testbed for the autonomous systems, that doesn't justify the cost of 13 Hull's with no executable mission.

If the DoD ever gets cured of its cranial rectal insertion issues and gets back to having standards and training for war fighting rather than social engineering a lot of their recruiting issues will resolve.

As for China, I don't buy all the hype. They are a threat and a significant one, how good they are operationally and how good their equipment actually is, that's the question. A lot of what you read is hype in order to build public opinion to allow politicians to approve ever larger budgets to meet a perceived threat. This is the same thing they did with Russia until the Ukraine conflict exposed their myriad operational, organizational, tactical, logistical, leadership and weapons system issues. By the way these are issues, that I have mentioned here before, that were well known within the US military for decades and decades, and they briefed in depth when you were deployed in areas where you might potentially be in conflict with Russian/Soviet forces. It has always been, if they had sufficient mass, if they could overwhelm you initially with numbers of troops, tanks, artillery, aircraft, etc. they had a chance to win. The loss of the numbers, tanks, planes, personnel, artillery, and APC's from the Warsaw pact countries, pretty much defanged the Russian bear. Warsaw Pact troops also tended to be better trained, better controlled and more competent than Soviet troops. If the Soviet/Warsaw Pact were ever stopped or you could significantly disrupt their plans so that they had to adapt or adjust, they were done.
Look at the T-14 Armata, prior to the Ukraine conflict it was viewed as a super-tank, almost invulnerable. Videos on Youtube and stories in the media lauded it as probably the greatest tank ever built. After the poor showing of Russian armor in Ukraine the Rooskies are afraid to deploy it to the combat zone. The sinking of the Moscova is another example. On paper given its weapons, sensors and defensive systems it should have easily defeated Ukrainian missile attack, it didn't.
The biggest threat to the west at the moment is the depletion of our weapons/munitions stockpiles that have been sent to Ukraine to support their fight with Russia. We are now critically low on artillery shells, artillery rockets, a number of missiles, manpads, anti-tank missiles and other expendables. We don't have the manufacturing to quickly replace what we've used and it will take some time to replenish at current production rates. We cannot fight a sustained war with our current stockpiles. Hopefully, we'll rectify the issue before we get into a large scale conflict.

    An Aussie invention...Nice one OP.
Read this though..."has the satellite navigation jamming capability to commandeer the drone and force an immediate landing, allowing for further investigation of enemy tech."
I wonder if it could jam the signals to normal aircraft and slaved drones also? If that is the case and the enemy get a hold of the tech...We have a problem. Much more difficult to target a low fast moving jet of course...but the West relys on feeds from AWACS and satellites...

ONE OF THE WORST ON-FIELD INSTANCES EVER - ON THIS DAY IN 1975.
In a Test match between NZ and England in 1975, NZ's last pair was battling to push the match to a draw.
Ewen Chatfield, the number 11 batsman was frustrating the England bowlers. He had batted for more than an hour.
Bowlers started bowling short at him and one bouncer from Peter Lever struck the left temple of Chatfield. He fell on the ground, was moaning in pain and eventually lost consciousness. England players called their physio (Bernard Thomas) on the ground because New Zealand didn't have one.
By the time Thomas came, Chatfield's heart stopped beating. These were signs of dying and Thomas called for resuscitation equipment only to find out their was none. Thomas tried to resuscitate Chatfield himself. In a while, Chatfield's heart started beating again but he was still unconscious. The ambulance came in time and he was taken to hospital where he regained stability.
When all this was going on, Peter Lever on the side went down in his knees and started crying on the field. He said: "I thought I had killed him. I was ashamed of myself and all I wanted to do was to go back to the pavillion and retire."
Bernard Thomas said it was the worst thing he has experienced. He told: "If we had not reached the hospital in time, he could have died".
When Peter Lever went to see him in the hospital, Chatfield told him that it was because of his slow reflexes and the bowler should not feel bad about his bouncer [IMG]
PS: That was Ewen Chatfield's debut Test. In his first Test he had a near death experience.

Pass this on to every Veteran you know !

Veterans Day is a free entry day for all visitors to America's national parks, but starting this Veterans Day, a new law in Lofgren's name will bridge his passions and grant all veterans and Gold Star Families free lifetime access to national parks and public lands.
To obtain a pass, veterans may present a Department of Defense ID Card, Veteran Health ID, Veteran ID Card, or state-issued U.S. driver’s license or ID card with a veteran’s designation at participating locations. Gold Star Families, who've lost an immediate family member in the line of service, may self-certify their identities with a voucher. Passes may also be ordered online, but there is a $10 shipping fee for online orders.

National parks free for veterans on Veterans Day, every going forward

    Free parks for life
"We have a sacred obligation to America’s veterans," Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, whose dad served during the Vietnam War, said in a statement. "This new lifetime pass is a small demonstration of our nation’s gratitude and support for those who have selflessly served in the U.S. Armed Forces."

This should continue...keep going i would say.
In some SciFi stories ive read over the years, military service grants the soldier "citizenship" - And all the benefits that go with that status. One can't impose things onto private businesses...But the government have the power to make life MUCH easier for veterens, across the board from housing, medical (physical and mental) taxation, education etc etc the list goes on...The US spends multi billions every year on Defence, it wouldn't break the bank to give genuine vets the "thankyou" they deserve. It will also send a message to the public of how important the defence of the country and it interests is seen by the government. Enough of lip service...We either respect and admire our vets...or we dont.
Actions speak louder than words (Something the soldiers already know).
