Nah...Young buck wanting a sparring partner...If you stand next to them they take that as an invitation to spar....Haha... One does not spar with an adult male gray... Or a big red either...
There is a legend (Myth) that some General visiting a training area said, " Looks like a milk jug" from the one he saw standing on it's nose after a not so good landing. On the other hand 'Another' General is reported as saying, after visiting a J3 Cub flight training field, looks like a bunch of Grasshoppers hopping up and down. Best I've been able to determine is the Pilots who actually flew the Jug considered it a true Juggernaut and once they strapped it on hated to transition to any other aircraft. Oh this is rich. Otto pilot on a Joy ride. Debris found in search for F-35 fighter jet that went missing after pilot ejected during 'mishap' The jet was left in autopilot over South Carolina, and the pilot was able to safely eject. https://news.google.com/articles/CBMiXGh0dHBzOi8vd3d3Lm5iY25ld3MuY29tL25ld3MvdXMtbmV3cy9mLTM1LWZpZ2h0ZXItamV0LW1pc3NpbmctcGlsb3QtZWplY3RzLW1pc2hhcC1yY25hMTA1NTM00gEraHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubmJjbmV3cy5jb20vbmV3cy9hbXAvcmNuYTEwNTUzNA?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en
Should be like a drone...Once the pilot ejects the aircraft should return to base and even land itself....or deploy an aircraft parachute...Wonder why this hasn't happened yet...
Probably not as many or as big as you might think...If they can parachute a tank they can do a fighter...
Approximate mission ranges from bases in England. Interesting to see the distance the P-51 had, and why it was a fantastic escort fighter. PlaneHistoria
Yeah but that is a Cirrus light aircraft. Here's an article on the last tank drop ability. The Sheridan M551 "only" weighted 16 tons. The F35 fully loaded weights twice that. I think the configuration to install at least 3 parachutes would be a nightmare. This is the last tank airborne units jumped into combat | We Are The Mighty The F35 can almost carry a tank.
I've seen them drop Sheridan's and you don't want to be anywhere near the drop zone. Everything on a tank is very heavy and if something goes wrong, and I've seen it happen a number of times, huge hunks of metal go flying about at high speeds. If it hits you, you've had a very bad day. The G-11, 100ft canopy cargo chute, which is the one they dropped Sheridan's with, requires three canopies to support the weight with little or no excess capacity. The newer G-12 canopy has a lower weight capacity per chute but the canopy measures only 64ft. For comparison an MC1-1B canopy for personnel, had a 35' canopy and a weight capacity of 360lbs.
