An artist's impression of what the next Gen fighters will look like. If history repeats itself, chances are the real next Gen fighter will bear little resemblance.

CAC, here's a Joe Rogan interview with the OpenAI CEO that gives a good overview on the status and future of AI.

Very little I didn’t agree with…I think super computers will probably be the real dawning of AI as most people think of it. No mention either of the military who, I’m sure they have their own ‘situation’ going on with AI…Directed of course in a different direction.
There is quite a lot of competition already in the AI field, not just within the US but around the world. Some discoveries will be announced, some won’t.

Man, I'd like to have some of what he is smoking to see that future. A huge class of society living happily on the dole is hard to get my head around. People with power are too greedy to allow it.

You have struck upon the CRUX of the problem with AI...Although in the past new industries say like the re-newable industry had people worried about mining job losses - And those lost jobs being replaced by new job creation in the re-newable sector. You lose some - You gain some.
Given that ONE of the reasons we are persuing AI is to replace humans in the work environment, i can't see many of the lost jobs being replaced by new jobs in the AI sector - Some, but not many.
Indeed the plan is to replace MOST of us with AI in the future.
So how do we pay people? A Universal wage is being touted as the future, where everyone gets a minimum wage and those who work can add to their universal wage.

"Idle hands make for the Devil's work" - We know that when people are left with nothing to do they will get up to bad things - Breaking the law. Done out of boredom. We can delve into the world of human work - Why do we work as we do?
Part of the reason we work as we do is so that we are too tired at the end of the day for revolution - We just want something to eat and have a rest - Not pick up arms and revolt. Its a win win system for the government and the worker. But the system has long been broken and wealth distribution is not happening in a healthy way for society - So this system needs fixing anyway.

Indeed...How do we not create a large cohort of these people? Surely a population control policy/s must be around the corner? When we get to a point where more people doesn't equal more money this should be a problem that needs to be addressed. 8 billion is too many - Personally i think around 2.5 billion seems to be the right amount. Remember ZPG* back in the '70s(?). "Let me have my five kids and THEN we'll talk about limiting other peoples."

Yeah...And don't mention us Catholics! Large families come from the old knowledge of a high infant death rate...30-50% was expected so a large family was created knowing that a certain percentage wouldn't make it to 12.
The modern world has solved this problem...Families are getting smaller especially amongst the affluent people, no need to have children making money for the family or needing to look after non working parents. I have seen rather vicious reactions to the idea of population control - Its always flummoxed me. I don't have any children by choice so can't understand some people's vehement reactions...I think this is changing however - Many more people these day recognise that its coming and should come soon.
SciFi has tackled the problem over and over...Some end in wars that deplete the population - Others have test tube government run birth control - Some have used the one child policy.
Personally, i think everyone should be (temporarily) sterilised at birth...And when a couple want a family they must first pass a parental test (pretty easy) and then a financial test so you can prove you can look after the child. You apply for a "child licence" and once granted, your sterilisation is reversed, and you can have a baby. Re-sterilisation to occur after birth.
This solution gives "responsible parents" the right to have a child but denies the right to people who plainly cannot care for them. It also tracks and controls the amount of new births. Genetic manipulation of these children will no doubt follow - Now theres a debate still to be had on that.

Some folks are worried that they will be in the Z part, ie., banned from having children all together. Extreme end of the spectrum but I've met such. Me, I've never reproduced that I know of. Being raised in the House of Five Strangers didn't prepare me for fatherhood.

I guess as a RC with 4 siblings I commend you guys for your sacrifice in the effort to keep the global population down. I have 2 and the fun of raising kids is over rated. It's having grandkids who think you are a god that makes it worth the pain.

Did it actually have to copy the yoke?
'52s made me nervous back in the early '70s. They bombed time zones.

B-52's the only plane that could be flown by the grandfather, father and then the son, maybe his son also as it soldiers on. Has a way to go to beat the USS Constitution. Still commissioned.

And every year they turn her around so the sun affects the ship evenly over the centuries. Endurance of treasures.
