Got to see some of those mega shit haulers in the iron ranges of Western Australia back in the day. Would you believe I ran into a classmate from high school in Perth, Australia? Purely by accident. After HS I went straight into the Navy and he went to Purdue, geology major. So naturally we were destined to meet again. Yeah, sure.
Met a guy who drove one of those…he slipped off the edge of the road and tumbled it…Still in a wheelchair.
I took a ride in/on one of the first D10s made in East Peoria. We had a test track out behind building LL & as they came off the assembly line they'd rev up the engine and slam it in drive. Then hit the breaks - throw it in reverse and peel track. Not really peel track but made a heck of a racket even over that beasts engine.
NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) was a Navy thing, and a running joke at times. "Not destructive? Where's the fun in that?"
