Hi Everyone, Here is my Narvik shield in silver. The shield its self is magnetic and has a Brass (?) pin, which showed up grey in the scan for some reason! Under the pin I found a very small thred of uniform fabric, either Luft. Blue/Gray or Heer Field Grey (Its too hard to tell) but I think it may be Heer. I wasn't sure about the shield at first, having the area between the wings filled, but recently I saw a identical shield on WM Awards which had come straight of a salesmans sample board. So here it is...
Nice Narvik, ive got a Heer Narvik and a Kriegsmarine Narvik--the KM Narviks my best looking and favorite shield. David--now your hooked into collecting, like the rest of us.
Thanks Carl, I like Narviks too. I think I got a good deal on this one as the normal NZ price for one with backing is $300, I got this on for $125. Definatly hooked now
Gents : How can U tell the difference in the arms of service..... i.e. Luftwaffe, Heer or Kriegsmarine ? Are they supposed to be felt backed ? Good looking shield Kiwi ! E
Hi Erich, The KM Narvik shields are Gold and the Heer/Luft Silver. Yes they are supposed to be felt backed, mine's not so I got it cheap Heer would have Field Gray (green) backing, Luft I think would be with Dark Blue or Gray and KM is the Gold shield on a Dark Navy blue backing. The colour of the backing fabric is designed to match the could of the uniform its worn on. I think Carl's are backed... Hope that helps!
Heres the differences in my three sleeve shields: My Navy Narvik is as David says--and has darkblue backing material, the Army is feldgrau, and my Krim actually has a grey-green material backing. All also come with backing plates. On Friday when I see Greg and Gary--I'll see if they can post mine on here. My KM Narvik is a mint piece--my Army Narvik is also in very good-to mint condition and my Krim was twken off a tunic and is slightly worn but in excellent condition.
Prtty cool shield, Kiwi!!! Is that a good or a bad thing? That means that you will have a lot of nice shining militaria and medals, but not enough money to buy your own computer.
