Hello Bish--yessir, I do collect Ribbon bars. I have two right now that are very significant. One is a 7 place Imperial german ribbon bar that belonged to a line officer in ww1 who was recalled for duty in ww2 and became somekind of a high German Goverment Official as he was also awarded the War Service Cross without swords--which is extremely rare. He also has someking of a double Imperial award---one with crown device. The other notable ribbon bar I have is a 3 place Imperial bar that I think dates back to 1870 which has been proven to have belonged to Friedrich-Wilhelm von Pruessen. This man was Kaiser for 99 days only because he dide of pneumonia (Sp?) I currently are awaiting for three more ribbon bars to arrive--all are Imperial a 9 or 10 place, a 6 place Saxon and another 7 place I think.
Well, we have our answer. Check out the new main page of the site. Questions about the medals are answered in the FAQ section.
Hello Otto--I just checked but didnt see anything about the medals--I guess I need to be hand held and take4n directly there
Carl, go here, to the site's startpage: then select "WW2F FAQ" in the drop down menu. You can get to the medals section in two ways: either the FAQ's menu, (top right), or in the section that answers a question about medals
Hi Otto--I must still be missing something om my end--I can get to the FAQ section but I cannot find any drop down menu. I think its hand-holding time--Carl.
Sorry Carl, I guess I wasn't too clear. You use the drop down menu to get to the FAQ page, then go to the top right of the faq page. You will see two links "avatars" and "medals", click on the "medals" one. Unfortunately for you Carl, you have been a member for a while, and you will see nothing you haven't seen before in there. Another way to get there is yo read through the FAQ and when you get to the medals question, there is a link to the medals page in the answer. Either that or just click here: http://ww2forums.com/medals.shtml [ 15 July 2002, 10:40 PM: Message edited by: Otto ]
OK,OK - I never expected this one to run to two pages !! I think we can say that Otto has dealt with the original question very thoroughly in his new 'intro' page - thanks, Otto. ( Now, about that DFC . . . . . . . )
LOL @ Martin!! Don't worry about it Martin, I'll take as many pages as in necessary to solve these issues. And just for you I'm going to add the DFC to the medals list, how is that for service?
Martin, I just got the word to Peppy, he's going to make add the DFC, (British), to the medals section.
Otto im almost speechless with -- with being tongue tied in trying to reply. VERY well done for YOU A-N-D PEPPY!! and thanks for the direct link--even I cant miss on that one
I just visited the link for medal descriptions, and I couldnt have been more wrong on the japanese award--or the russian award (first one) if I tried.
But why a Distinguished Flying Cross? I wonder. We, stupid guys who throw up in aeroplanes do not deserve it. Wouldn't it be better a Distinguished Service Cross? Just asking, not complaining.
Thats not the point my friend, they are there just to enjoy, and they show how much one has put an effort into these forums.
I just think that the DFC is . I also cannot believe that this is my most successful posting ever with 36 replies !
Add one more to that Martin. FYI: The medals are not meant to be a concrete ranking system. There are about 5 more available beyond the highest ranking person right now, (aka: Carl Evans), and over time we will see them all. We will also see substitutions and deletions to the currently available medals from time to time, just to keep things fresh.
