Guy and gals, I will be disappearing for a few months, due to work commitments. I should say, unfortunate, work commitments.

I don't know if you have heard, but Canberra, Australia's national capital had several of it's suburbs devastated by bushfires on Saturday the 18th. Four people died, 300 people were injured and over 400 homes destroyed. One third of the city lost power, water and sewerage for a couple of days.

I have been asked to participate in the clean up operation which will probably take several months, so I will be taking my leave of the Forums for a while.

If I get the opportunity I will look in occassionally to see how things are going, but in the meantime keep up the good work guys, this is the best WW2 Forum around.

    Cheers.

Those bush fires seem to be causing trouble every now and then, unfotunately. Anyway, take care and come back soon!

    For the bush fires :(

    Good on you, Sniper.

Just got an email from a family friend in Canberra. Fires were apparently started by lightning strikes hitting bushland two weeks ago & then being fanned by high winds and 37 deg C temperatures.

She says 'tonight a cool change arrived from the south and it's a blissful 14C' so hopefully the crisis is past..... but she also says the destruction is 'a huge shock to the community'.
