And how long do you think Costner's character would have lived after Sioux indians saw him at the fort? In all reality the movie would have lasted about 30 minutes long- just enough time for the indians to scalp him! "Dances With Wolves" is an extreme example of a western indian tribes compassion for anyone outside of their tribe. Furthermore, I just can't understand what all the hoopla is about indian culture and why everyone in America thinks that the "White Man" wanted to kill all the indians. What a bunch of crap! The indian, especially the ones out west, were bloodshirsty savages and were too preoccupied with killing each other for the whites to have been of any real threat. The argument I've heard, from a 19th century standpoint is that the WASP's were as savage as the indian. More nonsense since I know of no European/American culture of that time that gave the prerequisite for the rite of passage into manhood to its youngsters as riding/killing another man in combat!
Speaking of kevin kostner. The only film I did like him in was a movie that also had Anthony Quinn in it. I think kostner was a Navy pilot of somehting and I think Anthony Quinn was a bigtime drug dealer with a beautiful daughter that I think kostner was trying to get her to leave with him--or something like that. kostners Robin Hood and his Dancing With Wolves flick--reeked bigtime.
That one set in the White House with Gene Hackman as the President - 'No Way Out' was it? - wasn't too bad....
Hi Martin and thanks--I think that was the movie. Yeah--I liked that movie but I think mainly because of the movie stars in it. I had forgotten that Gene Hackmann was in it as well. My main reason for watching it was to see Anthony Quinn. But I did enjoy everyone in the movie.
Being a right winger I dislike any liberal movie or actors For me Pearl Harbor was only good before the Ben "Liberal" Affleck was acting Waterworld was the most stupid movie in the world and it cost a lot too
I think waterworld cost what? some 300 million dollars and I heard it was a big big flop box office wise. ((BIG BIG Laughing icon please))
Carl, I think "Waterworld" cost some 150 million dollars which were quite a lot by the time. Then 200-million "Titanic" came and in 2000 some three films cost 200 millions too. "Pearl Harbour" cost 160 million! And maybe next year we'll see the first 300 million dollars film! Famous producer Dino DeLaurentis' "Alexander", the biography of the greatest king, soldier and general in History. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, of course.
Reminds me of the ghastly flop years ago, 'Raise The Titanic!' . It led to a famous quote from veteran British producer Lew Grade. When shown the figures of how much over-budget the production was running, he took the cigar from his mouth and gloomily pronounced : 'It would have been cheaper to Lower The Atlantic ! '....
Have to disagree with you "F," they did spend over 300 million on it. Why do you think kostner (SP?) isn't making big flicks these days?
At Universal here in L.A they have a show called Waterworld. Worth seeing it, the show is maybe 10 minutes but a thousand times better than the movie.
Thanks for the memory! I have also been to waterworld at universal--but that was about 20 yrs ago and it was great then. I also have been to Knotts Berry Farm too. At universial--I saw wierd al yankovik-- Before he became famous with his songs. He was working as a Cowboy at universal and I got a snapshot pic of him--not knowing who he was then and only discovering that several years ago--that it was him dressed as the Cowboy. Also on that trip--in Los Angeles at a sidewalk cafe--I met, shook hands with, talked with, and had him sign a B&W 8x10 picture of him I had just moments before--had bought at a tourist trap shop. The "him" I am talking about was none other than James Cagney !!!!! [ 16. June 2003, 05:55 PM: Message edited by: C.Evans ]
Reminds me of that famous s Cary Grant story - you know, a newsman writing a story about him sends a wire to Grant's agent : - 'How old Cary Grant ?' Grant sees it and sends the reply : 'Old Cary Grant fine - how you ?' Which you have to admit is style ....
