The French speaking citizens of Quebec DO very clearly wish to be part of Canada, and they have ably demonstrated this by voting to remain in four seperate referendums. The fact that a small minority of malcontants seeks to poison the atmosphere and force separation should not reflect on the majority. After all, name me a country that does not have a successionist lunatic fringe...

one of the things about British anti-europeans that amuses me, is that they say we must not become part of a federation because we will lose our national identity.
Haven't thay noticed that since 1707 we have been part of a mini federation called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and N. Ireland. 4 countries for the price of one :D

They way I heard it, the native Canadians said they’d take their land back rather than be French! [IMG]

Yes, in the latest referendum the result was razor thin, however nobody was scared by this more than the French. many of those votes were protest votes against the ineffective handling of the Quebec issue by sucessive governments in the 1990's. When the close results of the referendum became known, many who had voted for it, never expecting it to be a reality flocked away. 2 weeks later, polls showed a 10% drop in support for sovereignty.

Now, 8 years later, support for sovereignty is at an all-time low, the sovereigntist government was voted out of office, and all is much better...

Europe is a very good one, soon the EU will probably have much more monetary power then the USA, or North America for that matter.
