    Erich,

The 'Chunnel' was built so the French could be in London with their hands up that much quicker next time the Germans invade...

    Framert,

I doubt Blair has a plan for anything (Im sure he does really, I just dislike him! I'm a Thatcher-Child, bring back Maggie! She knew how to fight a war). We Brits just wait for something to happen then cope with it. Blitz spirit and all!

Thats why I left the country...

Oh yeah, I forgot, this isn't a war on terrorism or an attempt tp 'liberate' middle eastern people, it is a 'crusade' against 'evil'. I am not sure which side to support now, one side call it a crusade, the other a Jihad and both are fighting evil in one form or another. Oh well.

As for the Channle tunnle, where is the joke? It is fantastic for trade, for transport and dead handy for those of us who like going to France. The only people who don't like it are those small minded enough/racist enough to detest the French for being French.

Finally, will people stop talking about the English! The country is called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, that means that there are Irish, Welsh and Scots too involved. If anything talk about Britain or the UK!

    Sorry, felt like a rant.

What self respecting English Gentlemen likes the French?

The dislike of the French is inbred (like our royal family) into the British pscyhe!

    Remember Waterloo, Agincourt and Crecy!

Why do you think Raglan during the Crimea kept calling the Russians 'damn Frenchies'..?

Stefan, notice the 'Tongue-in-cheek'. And I am English. Not Welsh, Scottish or Irish. ENGLISH. If I liked sheep, then I would be Welsh, if I liked potatoes (sorry Maverik), then I would be Irish and if I liked whisky... well work that out for yourselves!

By the way I am joking...

I am fed up with the 'politically correct' bollocks that rules our thoughts and language! If I wanna call a Frenchman a frog, why cant I? Do Americans not call the English Limeys? Is that ok?
When I was a wee laddie everyone disliked the French. But then back then we thought of Europe as 'those slightly odd people over there...'

Before you all moan, notice the wry English sense of humour...

Also my family is Welsh and Italian (what a combination) on my mothers side and German and English on my fathers side. I live in Ireland, have many friends in Scotland and Wales and am not at all rascist or xenophobic.

But I still dont like those damn Frenchies... [IMG]

Also didnt Philip II (or whoever) call the first Crusade a 'Crusade against evil'?

I will start worry if the coalition forces adopt red crosses on a white backgroud for their symbol...

I blame the damned boches! (and that includes half of myself ;) ) Were it not for them the French and British would still be having fun killing each other following a 1000-year-old tradition. [IMG]

Ah! The British Royal Family, the Von Hannover-Von Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Von Battenbergs, the epithomee of Britishness! [IMG]

This is quite true. One asshole says it's in the name of Alláh and the other stupid dumbass says it's in the name of the Almighty. Actually, I'm fed up with his 'God save America' and 'America is the greatest country in the world'.

What's up in this prick's mind?! First, America is a continent, not a country. Second, God didn't ask him to do anything and third, what the-hell-in-this-world gives him the right to say the US is better than the rest of the countries on this Earth? And better in what? At sports? Well, yes, but until Bei-jing 2008…

Erich, Brits is always good (I hope you others agree ;) ). The way I see it, when people talk about the British people as 'the English' it is rather like me talking about all Americans as New Yorkers.

Piers, don't worry, you need a sense of humour to live amongst these 'dark satanic mills' (yes, its true, I am now 'up north'!)

Do you want me to get killed?! 10 million cars around here ain't good for a skinny Franco-German riding a bicycle!

Not much. To-day and the rest of the week waether are: Max. 25-25 Min. 14-13 centigrades. I don't know if that's hot or not… I just can tell you that I, at noon, I'm frying… but I'm weird.

Stefan, I didnt take the comment about the 'Chunnel' itself as a joke, merely the security against 'alleged' terrorist acts.Proves what man can do when he sets his mind on it. Geez, there is more to life than being able to field-strip an AK-47 and strap bombs to my back.

These threads sure get weird sometimes. I was watching a TV show on BBC TV about putting houses up for auction and the people bidding on the houses were everything but English. I think all the colonies that England had in the 19th century moved to England and are taking up homesteads.

What do you propose we do then? I have been pulled over by customs so many times going through the chunnle it is rediculous, as has anyone who does it regularly. In fact, once or twice I have been asked various questions to determine why I had traces of explosives and propellant charges on me.

As for the rest, well considering how easy it is to get explosives and firearms into any country I don't se why you are making such a fuss about the chunnel in particular. In all honesty it is no easier to get explosives onto the chunnle than it is to get them onto an aircraft.

Basically what I am saying is that if you want to get explosives or an AK onto an aircraft, boat or the chunnel there are ways to do it, the security services do the best they can, its all very well for people to complain but I would like to see them suggest a way to improve things

TA, when it comes down to it though surely you have the same thing in the US? I am fairly certain you will find that a huge proportion of your population are immigrants and a fairly large proportion of those immigrants are not of the same peoples who built the houses they live in.

Yes Stefan, I was trying to make sense of all this and I am doing poorly. When I think of the UK the thoughts that go through my mind are Big Ben, Led Zepplin, Rolling Stones, Beatles,Petula Clark, the changing of the guard,M.Thacher,Churchill, castles,English estates with formal people living in them, Are You Being Served,(best show ever !),Sherlock Holmes, ect. NOT people from India and Pakistain and who knows where buying up whole blocks of London and moving in people who can't speak English. It seems like this is a mistake that will hurt the UK sometime down the line as the diverse cultures are not likly to mix well or live well together. It seems to me this is part of the problem in Northern Ireland, trying to get two cultures to live together in one area.
I guess this sounds racist or something but I don't mean it to sound that way. It just seems to be human nature for like peoples to stay in their own group and keep their own values. Similar to Gypsies who are not wanted in general because they refuse to mix in other cultures and are not well understood.

And yes it is true and official now that in Texas and soon the southwest,Hispanics are the majority of the pop. and whites are on the decline. The border patrol is a joke and thousands of Mexican Nationals come here everyday to live. Some fit in well and others seem to want to bring down the US to the level they came from with chickens, goats and junk cars and trucks parked in their front yards.

Don't know what this all means, just ranting and raving I guess.

</font>[/QUOTE]yea but every country thinks that they're better than the rest of the world. and i'm sure if you went to France, Germany, or England and asked the people where else they would like to live they would probably say right where they are, as would I. I don't want to live anywhere else but America, but will i have that luxory? No, in time with serving my country I'm sure that I will be stationed else where, but I will eventually return home (whether walking off a plane or in a pine box)
